“Pleasant surprise!”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

We stayed here for a night in October. Our usual B&B was full and I found this one on the Internet and was very pleased that I had done. From the outside, the pub didn't look too promising but the welcome we received was genuine and very warm. The rooms are small but very well equipped and really warm and cosy. We didn't eat in the pub in the evening but the breakfast was delicious; just like a home cooked breakfast with proper sausages and not the usual cheap variety often served these days. We will definitely return here and eat our evening meal here next time. The views from the carpark were lovely and it was very easy to get into Sheffield the next day.

Many thanks for your review. I take on board your comment regarding the look of the outside not being very pleasing. We are looking at ways to make it more appealing from the outside, in the new year, watch this space.

We stayed for one night and wished we had booked another. Six miles from Sheffield in a tiny little village. Hosts very friendly and welcoming. Great food and a good choice of local ales. Breakfast which is pre ordered was fantastic. Rooms on the small side, but decorated and fitted out beautifully. Great power shower.

I stayed here for one night on a business trip to Sheffield. It is located about six miles out of the city in a very quiet village. Access could be a bit tricky in winter as roads are not great and the village is on the top of steepish hill. the rooms are located in an annex to the pub/hotel. the room i stayed in was spotlessly clean and very comfortable if a little on the small size, with a fantastic power shower. A good selection of beers are on tap in the pub and food is available (all home cooked) traditional English fare. The breakfast was spot on and huge (I couldnt finish it) some much so that i didnt feel like eating anything else untill about 6pm; after a feast like this you feel ready to take on the whatever the day throws at you.

Mr telford Thankyou for your great review, very precise. Regarding the bedroom size I quite agree however I do try to make them as homely as possible.
In winter it can get a little tricky depending on the type of vehicle the guest has, however we do have a 4x4 which we have been known to use to ferry guests about in (to work etc). I think the breakfasts are quite big myself, probably because the men are cooking them!

A really lovely short break. The room was spotlessly clean and the food was wholesome and delicious.
We were given a warm welcome and helpful tips on places of interest in the warm and friendly pub.
Great hotel and lovely people.
Also top marks for value for money and a great bonus that we could take our little dog!

We enjoyed having you to stay, hope you managed to fit everything in that you wanted to do. Plus I wouldn't have known you had brought a dog if I hadn't come to see you when you checked in.

Me and my wife were attending a wedding in Sheffield on 8/9/12. We stayed one night at The Royal Hotel for £65 including breakfast.

The location is very good, being just outside of Sheffield but only a 5minute drive away. It's got a very rural feel to it, so it's nice and quiet for a good nights sleep.

To help with the good nights sleep, the rooms are around the back of the pub in a separate building. The quality of the room is very high, even down to the biscuits in the tea/coffee tray and the soaps and toiletries in the wash rooms. The room itself was quite small but perfectly ample with a very nice and comfortable bed with lovely bedding.

Sadly did not get to sample the evening food at the hotel, as we ate at the wedding and got a taxi back after midnight. But when we went in for breakfast in the morning, the landlord was already up watching the news and had the cookers on for us, with a table neatly laid out. He cooked an excellent breakfast and even sat with us after we'd finished and just chatted about what was on the news, the local area, where we were from etc.

Amazingly, when we explained that we had to get a taxi back to our car near the wedding reception, he offered to drive us! So, we jumped into his car and he dropped us off at the car as promised.

Thanks again and keep up the great work!

A great little pub for the discerning drinker if a little out-of-the-way, with the full range of Bradfields ales on tap. Good atmosphere in three distinctly separate cosily decorated bar areas. Friendly staff and what looks like tasty value for money food but I didn't have time to try the menu. Maybe next time - I definitely will be going back.
