We go there for lunch occasionally. I think the place is good value for money and food quality is always good. There are a lot of hard surfaces and nothing to deaden the noise so when it is crowded it's difficult to have a conversation.

Dropped in on the spur of the moment on a Friday lunchtime for a rapid lunch. Chose from the prix fixe (or the Italian equivalent thereof) and thought it excellent value for a quick 2 course lunch with a glass of house wine (small) and a coffee - £15.

It was very busy but the service was still excellent. Seems well managed with genuinely happy staff. I have to say that I'm not really bothered about getting served Italian food by non-italians - this is Reading after all - unlike some reviewers.

Food was good, fresh and well seasoned. Bruschetta and Chicken a la Milanese. Good Sicilian house white and an excellent atmosphere while I caught up with my emails etc and celebrated the proximity of the weekend.

I've been to Carluccio's before and like the format and style. Thanks Carluccio's in Reading.

Better than Jamie's anyday.

I joined some colleagues tonight for a meal after work at Carluccio's in Reading. The service was friendly but erratic from an apparently inexperienced French waiter, which was interesting in an Italian restaurant! The food was good, and portions generous. An enjoyable evening.

My advice is...get a nice food basket with nice chilled bottle of champagne from Carluccio's, put it in the car and drive up to Caversham, sit on the blanket and just enjoy their lovely food while having the ducks and swans walk around you. Beautiful sunny day.

The town of Reading, Berkshire is, sadly, not blessed with great restaurants, despite sitting on the River Thames with a rich catchment area. But Carluccio's is an oasis. It is currently staffed by an excellent manager, who tries to accommodate everyone and leads from the front. Lunchtime is lively and alterations to the decor in more recent times, with leather chairs and a giant wall mural of a busy Italian restaurant, circa 1930's, adds to the atmosphere. Food is reliably good rather than superb, but no complaints. On August 9th a simple lunch of bread and olives, two pasta main courses, with coffees and shortbread biscuits was £43. Drinks: One large Peroni beer and a large glass of rose wine. The glass of ordinary rose was £8, which is too high. Otherwise, good service, reliable food and an upbeat mood.
