Reading abbey ruins can only now be seen from the outside due to some protracted work to make them safe i assume. They have been closed off for a long time now and it is a shame because they are quite fascinating and a nice place to eat your lunch in the sun on the grass. Please hurry up and finish the work.

Thank Stephen M

Still being renovated after long term mismanagement by RBC.
Now providing a little insight in to the history of what was a busy market town

I’d wandered around these several times when I used to work in Reading and they’re worth seeing but think they’re still shut for some mad health and safety reason, will visit again once they’re re-opened.

Apparently you used to be able to walk in the ruins. It's a real shame you can't at the moment, I hope they re-open them one day.

What just looks like a few walls in a ruin takes on a whole new meaning when you visit with a knowledgeable guide. Reading Council organises these as the site is not open currentlt but well worth the effort of booking. Heritage open days are a must.
