“Disappointing afternoon tea”
Reviewed February 23, 2012

Went here for afternoon tea expecting a traditional, cosy sort of setting but it is very modern with wooden floors, no table cloth on the plain table, clean but not much atmosphere, only one other couple there in the two hours we were there on a Friday afternoon.
There was no menu but when the tea arived, there were three finger sandwiches each, one salmon (very nice) one ham and tomato (also nice) and cream cheese and cucumber which I cant eat. I had to go to the counter to ask for a replacement, which was brought. The tea cups were the thick shallow wide variety which meant the tea was cold within afew minutes of being poured out. Again I had to get up and go to the counter to ask for the teapot to be topped up with boiling water. At no time did anyone come to the table to ask if everything was O.K. The glass of bubbly was O.K.
The scones were the worst I've ever had - hard and doughy and a strange grey colour inside. The cream was OK but the jam was the cheapest type of (mixed fruit? ) set jelly. With a small pot of jam per two persons, it is strange to economise with such cheap jam) Whoever made the scones had absolutely no idea!
There were three tiny cakes each, nice but only a mouthful in each and nothing like the fancy cakes shown on the Groupon offer, which looked absolutely delicious and expensive - very misleading.
Very disappointing and hardly worth the Groupon price we paid.

“Great place for that special meal”
Reviewed February 18, 2012

I have eaten in Forbury's several times and it has always been very good. The menu has some classic and some new "fashionable" dishes, all extremely well cooked and presented
The staff are friendly, but at the same time extremely professional, having that knack of appearing at your shoulder when needed, but being invisible when in conversation or just enjoying the wonderful food.
Its not what I would call cheap, but for a special meal without having to pay the ridiculous prices of some of the local celebrity restaurants, Forbury's is a must. You can however sample the great food at a more reasonable price by eating before 7 and taking the "earlybird" menu.
Cannot wait for my next visit as I know the food, service and conversation will be good

“Always perfection”
Reviewed February 12, 2012

I've eaten at the restaurant with my parents on numerous occasions and both the food and service have always been exceptional. The market menu is amazing value for money while the full menu is a wonderful treat. The wine tasting nights are also always great fun. Cannot wait for my next visit!

“Stuck in Reading... god forbid!”
Reviewed January 18, 2012

If you are in the unfortunate position of being stuck in Reading then console yourself with a dinner date at the Forbury. One check through the menu and you will understand why. Lovely fare and a bill to match btu worth the expense and also help you escape your surroundings. You won't want to leave...
