“Convenient Location”
Reviewed September 6, 2011

Was very pleased with this hotel; just a block from the Reading Train Station.
Friendly front counter staff; very clean and modern hotel. Room had a great view of Reading from the 9th floor. Breakfast buffet pretty good; although the Ibis in Earls Court had a bit more variety. Situated amongst a shoppers paradise; lots of clothing stores/boutiques, malls, etc.
Staff were very helpful when I had difficulty hooking up my laptop in the room. Bathroom was ultra modern; one step up to get into the unit and the shower was very powerful.
Found the bed firm, and the pillows a little on the flat side. But otherwise I liked the hotel and definitely would stay there again.

great location in the centre of reading. clean hotel, really friendly staff. we didn't have breakfast, so can't rate this. when you book an Ibis you know what you are going to get, no frills and basic room, we had no complaints.

stayed in this hotel when we attended reading festival. the festival site is only a short walk away.

Nice hotel and rooms pleasant.
No attached car park and the nearest one is £16 a night so beware!!
The shower is about the most powerful I have ever experienced and could double as a water cannon - that said I love power showers so spent extra time being beaten up by it!!
In room internet didn't appear to work either with my laptop or the provided keyboard/television and the in room information was VERY sparse and confusing
Rooms seem well soundproofed and have aircon so a very restful night for a hotel that is right in the city centre. Very convenient for all the shopping and nightlife that Reading has to offer
I would return and recoommend.

A simple review this time. A budget hotel. Great location on Friar street close to all the shops and bars and five minutes from the train station.

The service and welcome were superb. The front desk staff are the best I've encountered. Very special.

The room was great. Air conditioning. Awesome shower and comfy bed.

Surprisingly excellent hotel.

Having stayed at a couple of Ibis hotels before, we knew we could expect a basic but clean and comfortable hotel to rest our heads. We were once again very happy with the standard of this chain. We stayed one night with our baby and left early the next day as this was a stopover on our journey somewhere else.

The Room
We stayed in room 912 which, being on the 9th floor has a good view over Reading. It was immaculately clean and quite spacious. The bathroom is simple but again, extremely clean with good water pressure, temperature and spacious shower. They do supply soap in the form of a bulk squirty tub on the wall and towels. There was a desk which folds out to be an extra single bed in the room, although we did not require this. The mattress and pillows were firm but very comfortable and afforded a great night's sleep. Tea and coffee facilities were also in the room as well as a TV (with pay movies and channels as well as free to air), phone and keyboard.

Price/check-in:
Check on all the booking websites for this hotel as we were able to find a special offer of 27.50pounds/night with fr.hotels.com. a great price for this hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful although we did have a a short wait on check-in as there was a queue.

Hotel Amenities
There is, as with most Ibis hotels, food and drink available 24 hours a day with a phone call to reception (we did not use this service) and a breakfast buffet from 6:30am - 10am which cost around 7.50 pounds (I am not 100% certain of the price, sorry). There are also early riser and late riser options of a continental breakfast if you would like breakfast from 4am - 6:30am or 10am - noon.

The breakfast buffet offered a wide selection of fresh tasting foods including croissants, cereal, fresh and canned fruits, yogurts, bacon, eggs, baked beans, juice, tea and coffee etc. We found it to be of good value and although we originally went looking around the hotel for a breakfast were glad to have eaten there instead. The restaurant itself is spacious, clean and comfortable albeit standard.

There seemed to be a few pubs nearby that would be open for dinner. There is also a small bar in the hotel lobby.

Parking:
The multilevel car-park is located behind the hotel on Gerrard St but there is an alley connecting the two so it is only a short walk once you park - you can't really unload the car in front of the hotel. Parking is not free, however, the hotel will stamp your ticket to reduce the price to 10pounds/day - just ensure you pass by reception on your way back to the car-park.

The Negatives
The walls are perhaps a little thin. We could hear a person in the next room do a huge sneeze although we couldn't hear talking ect except for the family in the passageway who spoke very loudly when returning to their room at night.

I would recommend this hotel to others. It is family friendly or good for a business trip. Maybe not the most romantic of getaways but you can be assured of its quality. They also have a 'fix your problem in 15mins if it is their fault' policy which is very reassuring and you are treated like an individual despite its size

Room Tip: Ask for one at the end of the halls to reduce noise from people walking past

Dear Madam (and baby!)

Thank you very much for your feedback received following your recent stay in our hotel, and for writing such a full and extensive feedback.
As you said, rooms at the end of corridors tend to be more quiet, and we will be more than happy to allocate one when requested upon check in.

Kind regards

Perfectly situated for town centre, easy access to train station. Good value for money. The rooms were sizeable and the shower facilities were excellent! Could have used some more towels though, without having to request them! A comfortable and good night sleep. Finding the parking area was however a little tricky!
