Good location near station and city centre. Nice rooms (except when they book you in a disabled persons room). Beds rather hard.
Personnel is friendly but service in the restaurant is slow.
Parking space below the hotel is very limited and spots are narrow. Nearby parking at NTC for 8 pounds a night looks like a no-go zone.

My taps were plummed in the wrong way round, and the pictures in my room were upside down?! Strange!!

Apart from these minor issues, the hotel was very pleasant, though the food was a little pricey and the staff a bit manic but very polite and professional!

Overall I would recommend to anyone on business...

The Novotel Reading having only recently opened in September 2006 is lovely and new inside and has that modern/clean design favoured by most modern hotels.
My experience-It was a weekend leisure break Fri/Sat night

Room- had a twin room, at the side of the hotel no noise form outside, i can't comment for those rooms facing Friar Street but the windows are doubled glazed so no noise should get through when shut.
Beds are REALLY, really comfortable.
Bathrooms have great showers and baths, the only comment i would make is the toilet is seperate to the main bathroom (just inside the main door as you enter the room) so you have to walk around the corner to get to the bathroom to wash your hands; the main door to the bathroom is also made from opaque glass which some may find odd. But nothing you can't put up with for a few nights.

Pool- Below the ground floor is a nice pool which my mate sampled the delights of..

Breakfast - good selection of continental and hot breakfast
Staff- were excellent, all very friendly and helpful. The management should appreciate the impact great staff have on your visit and ensure that come 12 noon when everyone checks out that having one receptionist is not enough and not fair on them.

Overall a very pleasant stay!
