“Nice hotel”
Reviewed January 16, 2013

Overall a nice hotel. The staff were very nice and accommodating. I arrived early in the morning after a red-eye from Toronto and though they weren't able to let me check in early (the place had been full the night before) they did give me access to the pool change room so I could have a shower before heading to work.

The room was nice and clean, if a little cramped by North American standards. The bathroom was split completely in two with the toilet at the front by the door. The main part of the bathroom was next to the bed and was bright and clean. The only complaint there is that the shower leaked at the bottom of the door and the floor would be completely covered in water after each use.

The bed was not up to par in my opinion. Far from horrible, but not what I'd expect from a Novotel.

Extras were very expensive and the magic number seemed to be £14. WiFi Internet, breakfast and parking were (from memory - I might be off a little) each £14/day. I was surprised and disappointed that Internet access wasn't included in the price of the room. As for breakfast, I would just walk 30 seconds up the street to Starbucks.

The parking lot was hard to find and the spots were the smallest I have ever seen in my life. I had a mid-sized Peugeot and on more than one occasion I managed to carefully squeeze it into one of the spots but was then unable to open my door far enough to get out of the car! That was more entertaining than frustrating to me, but if you're not a confident driver you may want to come up with a different solution.

One final note - you can't drive your car down the street in front of the hotel during business hours. It's reserved for buses and taxis. They have it pretty clearly marked but I was looking for the hotel in a strange city while driving on the wrong side of the road and I managed to miss the signs until it was too late. I spoke to a cab driver who told me they'd likely have taken a picture of the car and would send a ticket in the mail. There's no charge from the rental company yet and my fingers are crossed :)

Room Tip: My room was on an upper floor at the back of the hotel and was very quiet.

Had to stay at Reading at short notice and booked the Novotel. This had to be the cleanest Hotel I have ever stayed in. I asked for a quiet room and my request was dealt with perfectly. The staff were all outstanding, professional and extremely helpful. Front desk staff were exceptional. Also the liesure center was there for guests use this too was like it had never been used. Finaly the WiFi was a great bonus. Will certainly be staying here again.

Room Tip: With 13 floors the higher rooms are quieter.

Novotel Reading is what hotels are all about; new, clean, purpose built, well trained staff and value for money. I stayed one night on business for £53.00. The receptionist found me a great italian restaurant, the bar was fine - free wifi everywhere and big tables for meetings. The room was fine with the best shower in all of Europe.
Street noise is a problem on Friday and Saturday nights on the lower floors. Get above the fifth floor if you can. The staff know this and try to allocate the quietest rooms.
The staff were cheerful, helpful and well trained.
To be honest a couldn't believe I was in England.
There is a fitness club but I didn't use it.
Location: a two minute walk from the railway station.

Room Tip: High floors on Fridays and Saturdays to avoid street noise late at night.

Spend a couple of nights at this hotel. Clean, tidy and everything that you would want from a city centre hotel. Our room was at the front and was a little noisy at times but it didn't stop us getting off to sleep. Breakfast was excellent and all staff were very professional, helpful, polite and friendly. Only slight downside was driving in to the centre of Reading and finding the hotel and the car park. This was tricky given the one way traffic systems, but not the fault of the hotel. A bonus is that the Hotel offers reduced rate when parking in the NCP car park, behind the building.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the main street could be a little noisy especially on a Friday or Saturday night.

Having stayed in a Novotel in Edinburgh and not being impressed I was expecting the worst. However as is often the case it is the staff who dictate your experience in a hotel and they were fantastic here. Food and room are excellent and breakfast is a buffet affair. Receptionist was very helpful offering parking and use of the pool / gym without prompt, right in the centre of town, would hesitate to revisit.

Stayed in Novotel Reading for 2 weeks business trip. Had a very nice experience staying in this hotel. Very convenient place as I was using local bus to travel places around. Very polite and helpful reception and all staff. Excellent room, I got the corner room with view to Friar street.Excellent cleanliness and rooms. The most positive about this hotel was the breakfast which was one of the prime reason to stay. Although the stay was bit expensive but it was worth considering all the encouraging factors.

Room Tip: If you are traveling during winter/fall please ask the staff to provide a portable room heater, this...
