Inspired by new trends, we are dedicated to serving authentic classic brasserie dishes with a modern twist, using high quality produce at great prices. On the menu, guests will always find brasserie favourites on our a la carte menu such as steak frites, moules marinieres, corn-fed chicken from rural Brittany and tuna Nicoise, for dessert, Cote's creme caramel and creme brulee are much-loved house specialities. Seasonality and Cote's commitment to sourcing high-quality ingredients results in a monthly changing specials menu, ensuring there is always something new to delight regular guests and gastronomes alike, as well as the excellent value set menu. Open early every day for breakfast, through to lunch and dinner; Cote's atmosphere is informal and friendly

“Dinner With Friends”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2012

Our friends had recommended Cote to us on a number of occassions and we'd sort of discounted it because it was a chain restaurant. Well we were struggling to get booked in anywhere else at short notice in Reading so succumbed to joining them at Cote. The ambience was very nice (not to formal) and the food was excellent. If we had had the same food at an independent Bistro I think we'd have been raving about it. Service was ok though the 'lad' serving the wine didn't really understand the concept of tasting the wine to see if it was corked and proceeded to pour for all 4 of us. A good selection of wines and food portions were generous(so much so we didn't have room for desert). Would we go again......defineteley

“Poor service and average food. This chain could do better”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2012

Food was ok but for French food I would expect better. Typical French food gives unlimited bread but nothing here. Duck terrine was good. Salmon and cucumber main course was lacking. Salmon, a little cucumber and hollandaise with no other veg/salad is a mean main course service. Once my plate was taken away, there was no offer of a dessert and no member staff came to my table at all. After a half hour wait, I gave up and went to pay my bill at the bar because the waiting staff had given up. Have since read that their waiting service is slow and quite poor. With such a wide choice of other places to eat all huddled together it seems sensible to go elsewhere

“A personal fave in Reading”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2012

Cote takes care of us regularly for either brunch or dinner - always good food, always good service and always a great atmosphere. I personally think they serve the best steak in Reading (even with the latest Oracle restaurants) and the roquefort butter is a perfect addition. Their breakfast (and bloody mary's!) really good to start the day with.
If good food, convenient location and great service is your thing - give Cote a try.

“Fabulous food but don't be in a rush!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2012

Having really enjoyed Cote in Covent Garden we suggested this one as a father's day treat as it is close to where my step daughter lives. Lovely riverside location in Reading's bustling shopping/ entertainment district. Great menu choices plus lunch and weekend specials. Food is top quality, well presented and SOOOOO French, good wine list and husband really enjoyed an Normandy cider as an aperitif. Delicious coffee. Felt it was very good value for money. The only thing that lets it down a tiny bit, although we weren't that bothered as we were having a relaxed Sunday lunch is that the service is so laid back it's horizontal. Perhaps they are quicker on a weekday lunchtime - I hope so, otherwise diners must end up being very late back for work! Go for the food and the atmosphere but allow plenty of time

“Brilliant Breakfast”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2012

I have found that not many places are open early on a Saturday morning for breakfast. Cote opens at 9am and even though we were early (by 10 mins) we received a friendly welcome and offer of coffee while the kitchen got started. The breakfast is worth every penny and we didn't feel it was at all expensive. Generous portion of bacon, eggs, a proper sausage, lovely tomatoes, fresh mushrooms and two slices of toast. Added to this a choice of 4 different conserves. The coffee is very good, but not included in the price and the OJ excellent and seemed fresh, but you pay extra.

Lovely service, lovely setting and 10/10 for the breakfast
