“So popular you need to book......and even if you do the waiting times for food seem excessive....”

Description: A Reading pub with a relaxing vibe. Regulars say The Abbot Cook has 'the best beer garden in Reading', but that's not entirely true; it has two. With a line-up of entertainment as eclectic as its top-drawer drinks list, there's also plenty going on inside this Cemetery Junction pub. Don't get us wrong, though: we're more 'gently buzzing' than rowdy and raucous. Our eclectic interior lends itself to a relaxed chilled out drink after work as well as a dining experience to celebrate those special occasions.

Have just tried to go here for Sunday lunch - but the place was fully occupied/booked and the car park was equally busy. We managed to get a drink and take a peek at the menu (which looked excellent). However the expected wait for food of at least an hour was too great for us - plus they couldn't guarantee that any roast dinners would be left if we waited (which seemed a bit odd as surely they knew what orders they had taken against what food they have available). So we left hungry and disappointed, but for those that were eating the food did look and smell nice!

This place has some of the best larger in Reading, I had some German Pilsner on my last visit and it was excellent.

Went in early for a Sunday lunch with family including two children. Food was really good, service was good. Interesting and tasty menu. Would thoroughly recommend it.

This place is down the road from our offices so easy to get to in a lunchtime. There were 8 of us and we all ordered separately on a tab to pay later. The place wasn't very busy despite being a Thursday lunchtime so the food came quickly. It was nice enough although there were an awful lot of whitebait on my starter that were very salty so the portion could have afforded to have been smaller. I had the macaroni cheese for my main and this portion could actually have been a bit bigger! It was also a bit dry, as was the supposed garlic bread foccacia - it appeared to have been allowed to brush past the garlic butter rather than have a decent amount so most of it was too dry to eat and I couldn't even dip it in the sauce in the macaroni cheese as there wasn't any to speak of! It tasted ok though and my colleagues who had the chicken and choriz skewers and steaks or burgers all said theirs was lovely.

It's reasonably priced as it attracts a lot of students and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and attentive.
