I was pleasantly surprised after walking through the entrance doors to the hotel. Initially we weren’t greeted at all by any of the 3 members of staff behind the counter. Eventually a lady came and checked us in, we were asked if we had a room preference which would have been ideal if we were fussy :) absolutely gorgeous decor inside the lobby and my goodness what a gorgeous smell throughout apart from when you get to the level 2 hallway and have a strong smell of smoke and other things!
Room was clean, however the pillows were extremely uncomfortable. We stayed for two nights and after the first I was seriously considering finding the nearest Argos to purchase some firmer pillows. Overall we had a nice stay and may well return in the future.

Start off with the positives and both the evening meal and breakfast were excellent and the restaurant staff are friendly. My room as fine with a large bed and the bathroom was clean and smart.
Now to the not so good side, the reception set up is just odd, as you walk in the first thing you see is the bar and no signage so for me it was a fluke I realised the casually dressed staff who I thought were part of the bar are the reception staff. Not sure the casual look really works for your reception staff especially as no one seems to have a name badge. Next the lifts have obviously seen better days and take forever to arrive, I eventually found the stairs and used them instead. Finally first hotel I have stayed at with no curtains at the window but some ill fitting blackout material hidden by the tired net curtains.
I think they are aiming to be a boutique hotel but just didn't work for me.

The hotel is situated close to the centre with helpfully friendly staff.
The rooms are decorated to a decent standard although the carpet was stained and burned in areas.
the main problem was the noise from the dual carriageway road under the window of the room. There was gaps in the windows that you could see light so obviously noise got through also as these are not modern double glazing. This was consistent all night including sirens from the emergency services. I had a very poor nights sleep so i would advise anyone who isn't a heavy sleeper to get a room at the none roadside.

Room tip: quieter rooms away from the road

Good location, decent breakfast and rooms; BUT THEIR SERVICE IS BELOW ZERO!!!! They will through your stuff, they will charge you credit card multiple times for things already paid and you will never hear back from them ... not even to say sorry for all the inconvenience they caused not to mention the finical loss.

We stayed for two nights at the end of July. Very happy with the hotel. We had a very good price for it and had a standard room at the back. It was nice and quiet, the "air conditioning", although not overly strong was perfectly adequate for late summer temperature of 24-25 degrees, but we were grateful not to have stayed a few days earlier when the temperatures were in the 30s. The bed was super comfortable and nice and big. Website says king size, but it was super king (6 foot wide). Nice soft pillows. No mini bar in the room, but a kettle with teabags/instant coffee/little long-life milk pots and loads of space for hanging clothes. Bathroom has nice big shower, but no lock on sliding door, which may be awkward for some people. The breakfast was excellent quality for a 4 star hotel. They serve proper fresh orange juice (not concentrated) and lovely fresh overnight oats, fruit, very fresh croissants, and a full English breakfast hot options. (Only thing missing was baked beans!) Only one coffee machine working, but coffee was good quality. Lovely communal areas and bar. Great position in Reading centre with lots of eating options and bars nearby. Public car park a short walk and got 40% off by giving receipt to hotel reception to validate before paying. Would definitely stay there again should we be in the area.
