I had stayed here in the past before it was refurbished by the current owner. It was awful. Now it is funky and fresh with bright interiors and some nice touches - Good in room space, free wifi, free 'pay' movies.

Good public spaces - more edgy than a Malmaison - but a similar quality.

Overall a real surprise with great, large, comfortable beds and a nice quiet, spacious room. Superior rooms are also available.

We stayed at the Penta hotel as we had been to Twickenham to watch the Rugby and didn't want to stay in London. We were simply using the hotel as a bed for the night, and for this the hotel fitted the bill. It's not a hotel I would normally choose as it is very modern with a trendy edge, but, I was overall impressed.
Clean quirky rooms, good sized bathrooms and fabulous toiletries. The only downside to this hotel is the parking. The hotel does not have parking onsite, so you're forced to use the nearby public car park which isn't ideal, but it wouldn't put me off staying there again.

The standard of this hotel has gone down since it has changed hands 4 times . last week about 200 of us went there for christmas lunch. Our coats were piled up on tables outside the actual room. Not good for a so called 4 star hotel. The service was very slow and the turkey meal was cold. In all, the food was poor quality and not value for money. Would not go there again.

Centrally located hotel with nice staff. However, they were too rigid to their terms due to which we faced quite inconvineince. The staff needs training to understand culture, type & expectations of guests.

I had to go to Reading for a conference. The town itself is pretty depressing, definitely not a destination and I didn't get much more joy from the hotel. Yes the foyer has funky decor and staff are friendly but I was annoyed to discover there was no business centre. Furthermore, you had to pay for WiFi. Otherwise the hotel only offered complimentary WIFI for half an hour at a time, then it cut out, even if you were in the middle of something. You had to log back in every 30mins. Rooms were spartan and incredibly hot and stuffy. The hotel is on a motorway and unbearably noisy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the internal courtyard and not facing the main road.

Stayed at The Penta Hotel in Reading, Berkshire on a Saturday night when attending a function in the town. The Penta is well situated in the town just a short walk from the main shopping area and close to the ring road so is easy to find. Although the Penta does not have its own parking, there exists an arrangement with a close-by 'award-winning' multi-storey making the prie for parking per 24 hours quite reasonable. The Penta is modern with large public areas, which might not suit those looking for the 'warm and cosy' feel. The staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was excellent and plentiful. Our room had a super-king bed, a perfectly adequate amount of space to move around and a nicely appointed shower room which was very clean. Bath towels were massive and the complimentary toiletries perfectly fine. Some areas of the hotel seem to be over-heated and our room did face the ring-road which gave rise to some road noise. This was not a particular problem for us but one should be aware if hoping for a quiet night! I would stay at the Penta Reading again.

Very trendy hotel in centre of Reading. If you do have reason to visit and stay in Reading it is worth looking at this one.

Very stylised decor, comforatble well appointed room, though a minimalist styling in reception and shared areas.

Good breakfast.

Room Tip: Room away from the main through road would be advised
