“Loved the 4 poster”
Reviewed January 5, 2007

The Feathers at this hotel belong to the beautiful African Grey parrot, caged at reception. Him and my girlfriend couldn't keep their eyes off each other.

Up a steep narrow spiral staircase to the top of the house with a view over the pleasant Woodstock shopping street, the Greenfincfinch room boasts an impressive double poster bed and futuristic curved body toning shower in the modern slate floored bathroom.

The bar: Comically stuffed pheasants in glass cases on the wall give way to only slightly less stuffy french accented waiters dressed in waistcoats and ties.

Excellent bar snacks from an original but limited menu.

There have been some negative reviews of this hotel but from our brief, 1 night experience, there is no reason that a stay at this hotel should leave you with ruffled.... er .. feathers.

On 8th August I submitted a review (see above) and it was negative in many respects. I wrote to the hotel and was offered a return stay, free of charge. This exceptionally kind gesture was taken up this weekend and I must say that our experience this time was much better - in fact it was like visiting a different hotel, particularly the restaurant which is quite expensive. Both service and food were superb and I would not hesitate to recommend. No hotel is perfect and I am sure that our initial visit was just a blip - how refreshing that hotels are still genuinely interested in constructive criticism and respond to genuine complaint.

Woodstock is beautiful, very near to Oxford, and London is very accessible, as are most other parts of the UK via the local motorway links, so if you are from abroad do not hesitate to make this one of your stops. It is not cheap, but quality rarely is, and you could pay the same in London for a dump of a place!

Just returned from a one night stay at the feathers. The hotel is set in the centre of Woodstock which is a delightful town very pretty and situated fine mins walk to blenheim palace, which was unfortunately closed when we were there so make sure you check opening times.
We ate in the bistro which was so cosy it has an open fire and is lit by candles giving it a lovely atmosphere. my husband and I both had the lamb and it was gorgeous, dessert let us down slightly had sticky toffee pudding and was a little dry. Our room was small but very pretty with beams and nice furnishings.
only gripe about the hotel is its not particulary cheap we paid £200 for the one night and when we checked out they had added a 10% service charge on our bill and charged for a paper that we did not receive so just make sure you check your bill.
If I visited woodstock in the future I would stay again!

Whe I tried to book a room at the Feathers Hotel I was told the hotel was fully booked for that weekend, and the only room available was a superior room at 185GBP. When my husband and I checked in the hotel and got to our room we immediately spotted that the layout of the room was slightly odd, and specifically the bed looked strange. We soon realised that the superior room was furnished with a pull-down bed which proved to be too short, too narrow and it was not possible to sit down and read comfortably as it had wood ledges at the back. The lighting around the bed was terrible, which meant reading was out of question. In the morning we asked to speak to the manager and complained about the standard of the room. The manager was very kind and accomodating and accepted the criticism and offered us a discount on the room rate, as well as two free tickets to Blenheim Palace. Apart from this accident, we had a lovely stay at the Feathers Hotel with a pleasant dinner at the Hotel Bistro. The Feathers is in a superb central location, has a lot of character and is five minutes away from Blenheim Palace.

Very charming hotel in a charming little town. Walking distance to Blenheim Palace. Food is very good, but pricey.

Just spent the weekend in Woodstock staying at the Feathers Hotel. Lovely 17th century building with lots of character. The room was large and spacious with quaint little touches. The service throughout was excellent and couldnt be faulted and would strongly recommend either the hotels Bistro or the restaurant for an evening meal. Breakfast was also very good. Location is just 200 yards from Blenheim palace side entrance. Would definately return. Would also recommend a visit to the Dalyesford Organic Farm which is about 30 mins drive towards Chipping Norton. Fantastic deli / bakery with an award winning cafe.

Period rooms, spacious. Our room developed a leak during our stay from the room above, no action taken. The hotel prides itself on organic produce but the smoked salmon was positively nuclear glowing. We still enjoyed our stay, the village is beautiful and Blenheinm is outstanding, would re visit.
