We booked a dinner, bed an breakfast deal for my birthday. Staff were all very friendly, some a little nervous as perhaps still learning their trade but we all have to start somewhere! Our room was lovely and a good size, only downside was the room was very hot even with the heating turned off, but we opened a window - problem solved. Dinner was a 5 course taster menu, however we were given an extra two courses on top of this. The food was amazing - i would definatly recommend the beef, pigeon and celeriac soup. The wine was also good with a good range to choose from. Breakfast we had served in our room and was good. It would have been great to have more to do in woodstock but the weather was not on our side. We will definatly revisit. Thanks to the team at the feathers.

My wife and I stayed and dined at the Feathers to celebrate my 50th - and could not have made a better choice. From start to finish service was warm, friendly and helpful - without being familiar or intrusive. We enjoyed a tutored gin tasting before dinner and were surprised to learn just how much variety there is to this traditional staple of pre-dinner drinks. We followed with the gin experience menu - a novel creation unique (so far as we are aware) to the Feathers. It demonstrated the chef's broad range - without in any way being pretentious or fussy. Six small, delicate courses, all beautifully presented and creatively using the subtley different flavours of the various gins. We stayed in one of the spacious, elegant suites and could not have been more comfortable. A memorable experience for a special occasion. It is no surprise that the Feathers won overall in 2012's Oxfordshire Restaurant Awards.

My husband booked dinner, b&b here for our anniversary and it was perfect. I would have scored 5 stars but the service was a little lacking. Stayed in Suite 4 which was large, cosy and comfortable with great bathroom and lovely furniture. Dinner was fantastic - one of the best meals we have had anywhere and the wine list was excellent. We sent our compliments to the chef then discovered he was away and the sous chef had cooked. The hotel seemed short-staffed, reception was often unmanned. There was some doubling up between restaurant and bar which meant service was a bit shaky at times. The bar/brasserie itself lacks any character or atmosphere and lets the hotel down. A little decorating and a few softer touches in there would improve it enormously. We would definitely stay here again and hope that the manager gets his staff levels up to scratch to ensure the service is maintained throughout the hotel.

Room Tip: Suite 4 is on top floor at front but very quiet, and beautiful.

My partner and I stayed at THe Feathers hotel for one night in Suite 2. Our overall experience was pleasant and the staff were very friendly. Our suite floor was slightly creaky. The bathroom was huge and very clean however, the bath drain doesn't work so we had to call reception to send someone up to help us drain the bath to take a shower in the morning. The bed was really comfortable and we had a great night sleep. Our deal included the 5 course tasting menu for dinner which was excellent however they do rush each course. The drinks are really over priced (£10 and £12 for a G&T and almost £9 for a glass of red!!!) After reading the other reviews on the breakfast issue, I'm glad we ordered room service - breakfast was really good. It seems that the hotel might be understaffed. The waiter doubled as the Gin expert/plumber/room service delivery guy!

I arranged for a special event for twelve of my friends and from the moment I first made contact with the Feathers I received excellent personal service. We had a private gin tasting which was delivered by a skilled member of staff who was both excellent in their knowledge and delivery - too much gin was consumed by all! The Manager and all the staff here were all outstanding and I hope we all get to go back again soon

This is my second visit to the Feathers in Woodstock and the rooms have been good on both occasions, my only criticism is the lack of a hospitality tray in the rooms, I know you can call room service but sometimes you jut want to make your own like when you wake in the morning... The breakfast is definitely the highlight of the stay.

I am delighted you were content with your stay. It is true we do not have tea or coffee making facilities in our bedrooms, but offer a complimentary 24 hour room service for this instead. Just call reception on the bedroom phone. If you are a bit shy in the morning the staff will happily pop it just outside your door for you to pick up privately.

I look forward to welcoming you back for stay number 3.

Given other reviews for the weekend previous to ours, I wonder if the teams of staff work every other one... We stayed on a secret escapes deal w/end of 16 February. Pre arrival communications were great -Emily I think - but from the point of being shown our room, which was along the street, with the staircase leading to at least two rooms above us running along the bed head wall, it went downhill rapidly! The receptionist didn't offer any information on the hotel other than give us the hotel information which is a printed leaflet (different from the usual folder in yr room.) No offer of newspapers, direction of the lounge area etc. The bedroom itself was fine, the bathroom lovely as mentioned by other guest reviews. However the customer service is appalling. We sat in the 'study' Area (comfy sofa and morning room chairs/tables) for 40 minutes while staff walked past several times before anyone acknowledged us - even when serving another couple coffee. Eventually we were offered refreshments by a different member of staff. We had afternoon tea included in our package and it was very nice. We ate in a local restaurant on Friday night turning up for breakfast at approx 9.45am (10.30 closing) on Saturday having been woken by what we assume were staff delivering the papers and then room service from approx 7.30am to the rooms upstairs- front door banged, travelling up the stairs, down the stairs, door banged again - get the picture? Arriving back in reception I asked the receptionist if we should wait to be seated or just go in to the restaurant for breakfastband was totally ignored. He continued looking at his pc! We went in to find a distinct lack of cleared tables and not a staff member to be seen. 5 minutes or so later staff returned and began to clear the tables and laid one for us. Not a friendly face in sight sadly. No cereal bowls at the buffet table. However Breakfast was indeed delicious with good choices on the menu. Fruit juices are freshly squeezed. Toast was decidly weird - appeared to be warmed ciabatta. We spent a lovely day in the local area returning for supper in the hotel. Service was fine, staff in fact very nice and the food was superb. Good choice of wines. Didnt use the services of the bar except for a gin martini at £10.50 and a cosmopolitan £7.00. Returning to our room, we were grateful that the guests above retired at around the same time as us saving us from the disruption we'd encountered the night (& morning) before. Breakfast on Sunday was much the same - no clean tables available, no offer of juices (though did arrive after request) no bowls. Food took much longer as well and despite making the same order, the content was different. We weren't the last in so others would have received similar service to us. It also took 15 minutes at least to check out due to a lack of staff. When asked if we'd enjoyed our stay, our response was "no, not really" to which the staff response was "oh.". Would we recommend this hotel, not for a stay, only for supper. We have had the pleasure of staying at Lords of the Manor which is linked to this hotel - there simply is no comparison. There appears to many other places to stay in the area (Burford House has excellent food and hospitality) I'd spend your money elsewhere. FYI I've sent this review to the hotel survey as well.
