“Grand Disappointment”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

Looks amazing, but is awful. Advertises delightful drinks that it doesn't serve, and opening hours it doesn't observe. Tea and coffee only, but as soon as we served they told us they were closing, made us pay, and locked the doors with the friend we were meeting stuck outside! Grumpy staff; angry rude owner/manager. Avoid.

“Terrible Choice”
Reviewed June 17, 2013 via mobile

We just arrived in Oxford, desperate for a cup of coffe before a walking tour...

The staff were very attentive when were sit, but after that everything went wrong...
It was 3 men stuff behind the counter polishing plates and just one waitress on a busy floor, you can imagine the speed of service.

The portions were ridiculously small and we receive the pastry after 15 min with the cold cofes on the table.
Never repeat here again, sorry.

“Really poor service, poor food”
Reviewed June 14, 2013 via mobile

Nice looking place which maybe would be nice in the evening for drinks. However rubbish service. Waitress couldn't speak English so got the order completely wrong.
Food really not that good, afternoon tea was just sandwiches cut in 2 and scones.
Not worth it.

“The oldest coffee bar in England”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

Lovely old cafe which was founded in 1650 and is the oldest coffee bar in England. English tea with scones and cream were delicious.

“Beautiful Building But Terrible Food”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

Whenever I visit Oxford I intend to eat breakfast at The Grand Cafe but I'm always eager to explore my favourite city, so I don't do so. As the Oxford Tube stops close by it's the perfect place to have breakfast, so finally I took my time and stopped. I had The Grand Vegetarian breakfast - scrambled eggs, sausage, beans, balsamic tomatoes and toast with a pot of tea. Not one single item was good and it's beyond my comprehension that such a simple meal could be cooked so badly,
I strongly believe in eating and shopping at independent businesses rather than the big chains.
