“Great food - lovely ambience”
Reviewed January 27, 2014

I came here with my boyfriend for New Years Eve and we were not dissapointed. The restarant is warm and friendly and table nicely placed next to each other. Sometimes you can hardly move without bumping into the person sat next to you.

I can't remember our starters but the main was absolutely amazing. It was a shared beef brisket and it was so big we couldn't finish it. The most generous helping of meat I've seen...well ever really. We ordered some sides which went along very well.

We then had ice cream for dessert which was lovely.

All in all a really enjoyable evening and if the bee brisket is ever on the menu again I'm coming back!

“Great food and friendly service”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

The outside of the Portabello restaurant was clean and free of litter and looked inviting on a cold and wet evening. We were met at the entrance by the greeter, who was friendly and helpful, like all the staff here today. Our server, Vera came and offered us menus and bread and olives, and took our drinks order. She made a good recommendation of Picpoul de Pinet as a good dry white wine option to go with the cod main course. We also had the squid and Yorkshire Tart, which had blue cheese and fresh figs and was delightful. The cod on chorizo and ribeye mains did not disappoint. The toilets checked were clean and well stocked with soap and paper. The restaurant was very attractive and the service from Vera was attentive and friendly throughout our visit. This was a very good visit and we will return and certainly recommend this restaurant.

“Christmas Lunch visit”
Reviewed December 21, 2013 via mobile

We visited Portabello for lunch with a fairly large group (18-20) just before Christmas.
Service was a little slow but the food was very good; staff we attentive and our Christmas lunch was enjoyed by all. I would recommend allowing a good 1h30 - 2 hrs if coming with a large party though.
Overall, a nice meal and reasonably priced given the location and quality of food.

“First visit for us”
Reviewed December 16, 2013

My husband googled "best steak in Oxford" as he wanted to go somewhere special to have a steak for his Birthday. This Restaurant came up and we are so glad we went. The service was excellent from the moment we entered. The steaks were cooked to perfection, but it was a shame that we did not have room for a dessert.

Will definitely return. Thank you to everyone.

“Amazing food !!”
Reviewed December 15, 2013 via mobile

I recently visited this restaurant with my partner for a meal and had very enjoyable night.
I ordered the black pudding which was amazing !! I'm a big fan of the dish but have never tasted it like this before with leaks and the pouched egg cooked to perfection ,
Followed by the calves liver and bacon full of contrasting flavours.
I then finished with the cheese cake which was nice.
The staff are friendly and warming and you don't feel rushed or left to fend for yourself a perfect balance for a lovely evening.
Will be returning to try the steak I spotted on another table :)

Thank Mark K
