Description: Our 2013 transformation remains loyal to Gee’s traditions of providing quality food & service in the most beautiful restaurant in Oxford. Whether flooded with mid-morning sunlight or under Oxford’s evening sky, Gee’s is the place to enjoy exceptional food in unique surroundings. The tables on the outdoor terrace are surrounded by the dense foliage of topiary & potted plants – & if you like the plants, some are available for sale. The new interior is filled with trees, new furniture, soft colours & lighting.Of course the important aspect of the new Gee’s is the cooking. A brand new kitchen incorporates a wood fired oven & a charcoal grill; food acknowledges the continued interest in the origin of ingredients, seasonality & the variety & abundance of local Oxfordshire produce.Gee’s remains the place in Oxford to enjoy a fabulous meal. There are dishes for sharing & dishes in two sizes to suit different appetites & times of the day. Expect great food to suit every occasion, served by knowledgeable & friendly waiters, in this beautiful, iconic glasshouse in North Oxford.

“Birthday dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

My sister said she would treat me to dinner out in lieu of a birthday present and suggested we go to Gee’s as neither of us had been in a while.

It has a very pretty entrance and impressive bar area. We just had to have a glass of fizz in the bar from where we could see into the kitchen. Noticing our keenness the manager asked if we would like to peek in – we could see a variety of dishes going into the wood fire oven.

Our table was ready so we got ourselves seated, the waiter was courteous & helpful.

We decided to skip starters so we could manage a desert each. I loved the sound of Monkfish, spinach & bacon, my sister opted for the Rofford pork belly, kale & sweet potato. We loved the look of the pizzas flying by, next time…

We just needed one portion of the chips which arrived in a fabulous paper cone & were truly appreciated. Both dishes were delicious & we congratulated ourselves on our choices. My sister asked about the pork which is evidently from the owner’s farm in Oxfordshire.

Between us we managed a bottle of Picpoul de Pinet, delicious.

One goats curd cheesecake with figs & one ice cream with Pedro Ximenez later we were finished & very happy at that.

We noticed the beautiful restaurant was filling up with people with more arriving in the bar area. We thanked our waiter and the manager for everything & all in all left pretty happily.

“What a lovely Sunday brunch!”

When you walk in, the restaurant feels fresh and modern but doesn't lack character. We were offered a few different options for seating (even the old oak table in the centre of the conservatory) but we decided on the covered seating area where the herbs and plants live, which was perfect.

My girlfriend and I shared Egg's Benedict and Egg's Florentine. We asked for the hollandaise on the side and egg's poached hard which they did just right... and they were delicious!

We had a few flat white's to accompany our breakfast and they were really good too! It's pretty hard to find good coffee and food under the same roof in Oxford, but Gee's have succeeded in that with ease.

Our food and drink was of a really high standard but it was also brought out by friendly and professional staff which goes a long way.

We will definitely be returning to Gee's when we are next in Oxford.

“Great great food and lovely atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

The food at Gee's really impressed me- they were at a consistent standard and all arrived at a good pace.

I had the guinea fowl which was tender and flavoursome, in face between the 4 of us we ordered a second one to share.

The side of chips was definitely one of the best chips I have had and the artichoke fritters we had to share was lovely too.

For desserts the parfait was delicious too, one of my friend had the ice cream which however was nothing special.

The bill came too just over 32 pounds per person (we did not order any drinks). Although not cheap but considering the atmosphere was so good and we all enjoyed the food- I would definitely recommend Gee's.

“Distinctly average”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

The restaurant looked quite magical when we entered it, but once seated it felt cold and drafty and the seats were a little on the hard side. Some of the food was tasty, but the impressive looking Yorkshire puds were almost frozen in the middle, one daughter's new potatoes were not fully cooked, and the other daughter's steak was not cooked as requested.

Our complaint about the Yorkshires was dealt with, but the replacements were almost burnt. We didn't have the heart to complain further and no one asked whether the food was ok, so no opportunity for feedback.

A disappointing end to a lovely visit to Oxford.
