“'lovely place but a bit overpriced'”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

Reserved a table for Friday evening, the place was quite full and we had a table along the bar area. The variance of the menu that is available are rather limited and they were not suitable for everyone's palate. The food and wine were overpriced, and the food was not something you will look forward in coming back. The service was not efficient as it was, we have to asked a few times before they paid attention to us. My husband want to order his dessert but given up later because of the inattentiveness of the staff. Overall, ambiance is perfect, but the variance of the food in the menu and the price did not much it.
I always love this place, brought my visitors here for a tea several times before and we always enjoyed it. The place is sort of a hidden treasure amidst the busy oxford centre. If I recommended it to others, or if I have to go back again, am not sure????

“Good service spoilt by the food”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

We had a mid week lunch here and chose the table d'hote menu which looked OK at £15.95 for 2 courses. My soup was OK but not very hot and my wife's mushrooms on toast were cold. My main course of lamb with new potatoes was OK but again not hot and somewhat greasy. My wife choose the poached salmon salmon which looked like it had been prepared by a plumber. 4 pieces of roughly broken off salmon on top of a huge pile of mixed salad which looked like it had come straight out of a supermarket packet. Wine and coffee were good.

“Superb lunch in lovely setting”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

We came as a mature family to have a trip down memory lane in this wonderful university city. There were 6 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes we had. Its not cheap but they are very happy to let you have 2 starters instead of a starter and a main etc. The setting is great, comfortable and with a definite whiff of Oxford don around so it has a great atmosphere. I would defn go back again, its defn not fast food or bar atmosphere, it has a good relaxed pace about it, in a very old building with beautiful features and all within walking distance of the city centre. Staff were friendly and polite.

“Good food very well priced”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

As with the hotel the restaurant is quaint, small and intimate. The food was very good, a limited choice but well presented and cooked.

The wine was reasonably priced as well.

My only slight niggles are the fact that people staying at the back of the hotel have to walk through the dining room to get there, also I found the chairs a little low when dining, apart from that excellent food and staff.
