We had just been to the cinema and decided to celebrate a special occasion by having dinner at Loch Fyne afterwards. When I rang to book I was told that they were busy that night but could get us in. We rolled up about 15 minutes ahead of our booking time to find the restaurant at best half-full and thus the right ambience for us. We were told again and again by our waiter that they were so busy, and as a result it took the better part of two hours for a simple three-course meal. Some parties and couples came in after us and left before us, some even getting a starter and a main course before we'd even had bread! The food was ok, good moules marinieres and excellent chips, though the portions seem to have shrunk recently at Loch Fyne. A few blips on the part of our constantly apologetic waiter during ordering, and a lot of time to kill, made for swift attacks on food when it arrived! That said, the waiter by way of apology (again) heftily discounted our bill and it was close to closing when we finally got out of there. It allowed for a joyous evening to chat at least, and I suppose it was midweek and thus low time for staffing, but surely the amount if bookings should have resulted in more people being pulled in? Anyhow, I'm sure we'll visit again, since Loch Fyne are good at what they offer and the produce is of a very high standard - but hopefully there'll be enough wait-staff to go around next time!!
