“Pleasant stay near Oxford”
Reviewed September 8, 2009

We had a delightful weekend stay at the Red Mullions Guest House. It is outside of Oxford in Heddington about 2 miles outside of Oxford, but on bus routes. The rooms were tastefully decorated. The staff very attentive and quite helpful with questions. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay

I recently stayed for a few nights whilst my husband was attending the N.O.C. for surgery,a stressful time for me made better by the excellent care and service shown to me for the duration of my stay nothing was too much trouble and the atmosphere was always pleasant, regarding location, the guest house is perfect for hospital visiting and no worries re;parking the car easily when returning ,a real bonus in a busy area such as Oxford,my sister joined me for a short while and we had an easy time hopping on the bus into Oxford,so handy for sightseeing in general, many restaurants nearby Thankyou Pami,Harminder,Luke&Marja, you work hard and deserve success .................Vivian Alderson

We stayed for a weekend in the family (top-floor) room. The room was comfortable and well-equipped, although some minor maintenance issues were found, the management seem too be on top of them.

Location is GREAT a short bus ride from Oxford town centre, and we never had to wait more than a few minutes for the bus across the road. With off-street parking this makes Red Mullions ideal for exploring Oxford.

We ate out at the Britannia - nice food and good service.

Overall, very happy and found the price quite reasonable. Wi-Fi was a nice bonus.

We stayed at Red Mullions for one night in April. Our first impressions were great - we found the exterior very attractive and we were greeted by Luke, who was great at recommending some local places for dinner (we chose The Black Boy, which was an excellent pub with great food, service and reasonably priced!).

After checking in, Luke showed us to our room... and it was then that we were slightly disappointed. The room was rather small, dated and the reception area was right outside our room. We both felt that the room rate was slightly overpriced at 85 pounds for the night.

HOWEVER, within a few minutes, Luke knocked on our door claiming a "last minute cancellation in a 'nicer' room". It may well have been the truth, however we did wonder whether the 'nicer' room was being kept for last minute guests who could stay two nights over the weekend .... which is absolutely fine. I have no problem staying in a 'less inviting' room, but I don't agree with the rate we were paying. To their credit, however, they were VERY GOOD at allowing us to stay for the one night over the weekend. Many other B&Bs required a minimum two night stay.

The 'upgrade' was fantastic and really good value. The room was spacious, modern, very clean and the bathroom was large with a lot of natural light. We also looked over the backyard, which was lovely. The room had a double bed and a single bed. It was a little noisy - in the morning, you heard other guests outside your room, loud and clear. But, it is a very homely and comfortable B&B.

Breakfast was excellent, with a full English breakfast on offer. We also helped ourselves to cereal. Luke was brilliant at ensuring the guests were looked after, including topping up our teas and coffees!

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, despite the initial disappointment of our first room for the price we were paying. Would definitely recommend Red Mullions!

The rooms are comfortable and well equipped. The family management were very friendly. We arrived early and were able to leave our car in their car park and venture into oxford.

Breakfast was adequate. The cooked appeared to be the better option due to a very limited selection of cereal.

The only real criticism was that, being a house, you can hear people walking around and talking on phones in rooms above and below very clearly. The rooms at the front of the house are noisy as they face the main road.

stayed here in early March for one night with my daughter, going to the Oxford Brookes Visit Day, as the main University campus is about a 5 minute walk away! we were warmly welcomed, and had a lovely cosy twin room in the eaves, with a view to the back garden. We really felt at home, and the room and bathroom were lovely. We both slept so well! lovely breakfast, and nice atmosphere in the dining room. I would definitely stay here again (particularly if my daughter ends up going to Oxford Brookes!)
