We stayed here for one night and thought the hotel was lovely. It's in a great location within easy walking distant of the town centre so once you've parked, you don't need the car again to explore Oxford. On arrival, the outside is very impressive as its housed in the city's old jail. It was busy in reception when I checked in however, I didn't have to wait too long. There had been some issues with our booking which the receptionist was aware of and managed to give some discount on our final bill as compensation. Our room was across the courtyard and had a large window overlooking the garden. The room, whilst compact, was really comfy. The bathroom was a good size and well stocked with the usual Malmaison products.
We ate dinner in the restaurant in the evening. The service was very good, nice atmosphere and good selection on the menu. We both started with the scallops which were well cooked and very tasty. We both had steak for our main course-good piece of meat, again well cooked. God choice of wines and some nice cocktails to choose from too.
Whilst it probably isn't the cheapest place to stay on Oxford, it's definitely worth the money for the uniqueness of the building, the location and good service.

Arriving at the Malmaison is a beautiful site. The outside is absolutely gorgeous. It's the picturesque look and feel of Oxford. I had the chance to check out the remaining original cell which was really interesting. Having been to another hotel, Liberty in Boston, that was converted from an old jail it's very cool how they are able to make it seem so luxurious. While I was only there for one night, the stay overall was great.

Spent a weekend at Malmaison and it was memorable on a number of fronts. A fabulous duplex room with so many comforts, including the biggest shower room ever, a great bistro style restaurant that we ate in on both nights, lovely staff who were very keen to please and such a quirky building that looking round it made you just go "wow"! The hotel has a great location for tourists, we picked the open top bus up just outside and most of the sights were within walking distance. For shoppers the main street was just a few steps away. I can highly recommend this.

Room Tip: Cell rooms are quirky, think the ones in the new part are bigger.

The family stayed here for two nights in January 2013. Despite being very impressed with the historic nature of the hotel, and the interior decor, we were unsatisifed with the value of our stay. Prices seemed exhorbitant versus the other places we stayed at, including hotels in London, Paris, Prague, Berlin and Dresden.
Always interesting to stay in a prison(!), but man, what a price!

The Sunday deal of 'spend £75 at dinner get a room for £25' works well in this centrally located hotel. The clever conversion from a prison gives it a special feel, more than just a standard hotel. You would need to pay extra for a 'cell' room, the standard rooms are comfortable fine for a short stay. We did find many of the public areas rather gloomy but this did emphasise the fact it had been a prison.

Staff were very helpful and efficient. We parked in a park and ride, the bus stop is outside the hotel. The location is great for the shops, the Ashmolean museum and all the colleges. A beautiful city and a really worthwhile stay.

Booked the Sunday Mal deal and it was a wonderful experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, our waiter at dinner gave us some of the best service I have ever received and the food was exquisite. Loved the theming in the rooms and there was a great eye for detail even down to our air freshener 'gift' in the car after parking. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a different trip to Oxford.

Room Tip: If I stayed again I'd definitely upgrade to a cell room.
