Really impressed by standard of room & the restaurant was very good: friendly & knowledgable staff, good variety on menu, lovely presentation & well cooked. Bar was a bit of a let down with very slow service despite not being very busy & imagine if busy there would be insufficient seating. Reception area too small & very slow checkout meant people were queuing for some time with little space to do so. Overall would recommend as it was a great experience & novelty factor.

Room Tip: Our room was in the C wing the facilities were to a very high standard & bed comfortable. Howeve...

Stayed there for 2 days; having in mind the pre info, the stay was rather moderate. The internet site gave me the impression, "We want to be different", but Service remains at "want to be", not really making it; reception service ok, but not as high standard as one might expect; nice people, taking notice, but no delivery; good for a tourist expereince, but for business traveler, niot more then ok

Room Tip: If you have more then 1 piece luggage try to stay in the main building

Very cool hotel that was a former prison. Rooms are perfectly appointed with lots of plugs/working space, beautiful bathroom and really comfortable bed with big down pillows. A little noisy--you can hear everything outside, but the décor is beautiful. Easy check in, convenient to walk everywhere. Lot's of good restaurants close by. Good breakfast buffet and lively bar

Room Tip: room on the courtyard is a little loud. you can hear everything going on outside.

The website does its job well- so maybe over estimated what we might expect. We visited with friends, they had visited before. We felt it sadly lacking something, although cannot put our finger on what!
Very dark, was glad to come out into daylight at times. Stayed in a room, not a cell, although still overpriced at £200.00. They even tried to charge us £29.00 extra for breakfast!! Rooms were very clean. Perhaps lacking little extras that make a difference.
We parked at hotel for 24 hours - parking attendant was really helpful - but again felt the £25.00 charged was a little steep(although tried other car parks near by - they also equated to same amount). Breakfast was really lovely, and service was good.
Had our evening meal in nearby complex - Prezzo - can highly recommend this.

The hotel is centrally located and very close to the bus station. The room is pretty average, quite small indeed but the outside decor is pretty fascinating. We had lunch at the brasserie downstairs with the menu looked pretty good but my lamb tagine was pretty blend for my liking.

Malmaison, the hotel group that "dare to be different", market themselves well and this potentially set my expectations too high, leaving me disappointed that the 'former prison' theme of the Malmaison Oxford wasn't emphasised. The hotel lacked atmosphere and the staff could have added a few smiles, but for the price visitors (or should we say inmates?!) are rewarded with a fantastic central location in a beautiful building.

The highlights for me where the roll-top bath, good-sized superior double cell room and original prison features. It would be rude to call the hotel average hence my 'Very Good' rating, but it is further from the 'Excellent' rating than other hotels I have rated this highly. The potential is definitely there, but more thought needs to be given to the overall hotel experience.

Words of warning: cell doors are not designed to be sound-proof and the mattresses are very much on the firm side!

Booked a cell room because of the experience even though it was £304 for the night! When we arrived it looked beautiful - cannot fault the appearance & beauty of the place.

Problem was the price of what you actually got. The staff never smiled, very morbidly dark welcome. Me & friend walked up to entrance with large suitcases and two porters were just looking at us rather than coming to our aid. To be fair, after I said (really loudly) "It's ok we can manage" they actually jumped in and helped up with our cases for the 3m we had left to walk.

Got to the cell and it looked lovely, really nice prison feel, bathroom was very clean and modern however a lot of corners were cut in the accomodation. For example:

Nice Malmaison packaging for soaps, gels, shampoos etc - cheap products inside
Only supplied one pack of complimentary biscuits for tea & coffee not two (theres two people staying in the room!)
Loo roll not replenished on the holder - had like 12 sheets left
No complimentary water in room

Basically little things that make a difference - I know your probably thinking i'm pathetic however please bare in mind you are paying £300+ for a room and these are the things we should expect to have been catered for.

I stayed in The Old Bank Hotel couple months back and they have the same rates but the service was impeccable and corners were NOT cut! Staff were so welcoming & friendly at the Old Bank and they upgraded our room for no reason what so ever complimentary and even provided us with complimentary bottled water etc; You wont get that service here at Malmaison

We ate at pizza express because restaurant prices were rediculous, however we did had breakfast at the hotel and I must say it was very nice. Fresh english muffins with egg & bacon were a dream and I requested my eggs well done which the chef listened to as some chefs can be right pompus gits, not this one; breaky was lovely (but service was still morbid!)

Yep, going to stay at the old bank again next not paying all that money for a one night stay at this place i'm afraid

Room Tip: If you're going to stay here do not go to superior room you must experience the prison cells or...
