I visited in November, but the gardens are still very attractive and the greenhouses are lovely any time of year. I'd go again in summer nextime though.

I love visiting the botanical gardens. It is very large and full of life regardless of the time of year. There is a new feature whenever I go and it is full of informed people that can always enlighten you, whether it is about plants or the place the Botanical Gardens hold in the history of Oxford.

As a lovely place to go for relative peace and quiet in the heart of Oxford, it's great. However, there's something missing. If you're there to learn about botany, really there's very little - they could make MUCH more of the informational side. If you want to see spectacular specimens, I'm afraid you really need to know your botany.

They are making in-roads, though. The Chemistry trail - an audio system that accompanies you with recordings made by members of the Department of Chemistry is a real improvement. It gives some fascinating insights into the plants and why they are significant. Technologically, it would be great if they could bring this into the era of apps, and let's hope that it is successful and built upon - what about similar systems for history, literature, ecology, biology and so on?

Fantastic tropical plants set in a pastoral setting by the river. A lovely fountain with ducks paddling made this special. Enjoying the lovely trees, plants and river make this a nice spot to relax in after seeing the wondrous sites of Oxford.
