We have visited this old fashioned pub on several occasions, located in the heart of picturesque Old Headington.
Parking limited but we always seem to find a space nearby.
Pies are the speciality here, but I chose a burger and chips on this occasion.
The burger was good but the chips were only warm. I could have sent them back, but had put sauce on them and didn't want to wait to have them reheated.
The barman who served me was miserable which is quite unusual as the staff are usually friendly

Everards owned pub set in a quiet part of Old Headington. There is a good range of ales on offer, with six handpumps not resticted to the products of the pub's owners. There is a small menu with simple items such as Ham, Egg & chips or Bangers & mash but the main focus for food is the range of 'award winning' pies, listed on a blackboard. Exactly what award they have won is not apparent. What is also not apparent is the price, which is not displayed at all on the blackboard, nor on the website menu. I can reveal the price is actually £13.50 for a pie which comes with chips or mash, peas and a small jug of gravy. I would only rate the Steak & Kidney pie I had as slightly above average, and with only the most basic of accompanyments the price is rather high for what you get.

Thank you for your review. The price of the pies are clearly stated on our menu and on-line. They have won multiple awards. If you go to the Pieminister website they are all listed for you. If you want cheap pies I hear pukka pies are quite reasonable.

Visited for lunch. Service was friendly and this pub has a nice feel. The barbecue ribs were tough, hard to get off the bone and unpleasant. The pies were good, but not exceptional. We didn’t give feedback at the time on the ribs, which we should have done, so the rating is upgraded to 3*.

I’m sorry the ribs were not up to our usual high standard. If you had mentioned it to a member of staff at the time they would have been only too happy to replace it.

We visited the pub at lunchtime on Saturday 10th August for a family meal for seven of us. Really liked the look of the menu, nothing too fussy, just good wholesome pub food. We had two young children in our party and their menu was particularly good. We all ended up ordering different dishes for our main course so it enabled us to sample quite a lot from the menu. Starters were all spot on, just the right size and very appetising. Main courses - no complaints whatsoever. All the food arrived together and was pleasantly warm. The guy who served us throughout was very accommodating without being over fussy. Would highly recommend the pub for a classic pub lunch/evening meal, and my sons was particularly impressed with the quality of the beer.

Good food and a brilliantly-run traditional pub although it can be a little crowded in the garden in the summer. Well worth a visit!
