Firstly I must say how difficult parking was if in fact non existent. The whole surrounding area is residents parking. Welcoming staff and some well kept ales. The food was pub fair and tasty. My wife's main was cold. It was taken away and a new main was brought out. Can't fault that. Good atmosphere and friendly feel.

Visiting a relative in the hospital and picked this pub because of the reviews - not disappointed as the food was great and the landlord and land lady really friendly. Just wish it was closer to my home.

This little pub could be difficult to find as it is hidden away in the back streets of Headington.
We started using it about three years ago when Richard and Toni were the licensees. We were disappointed when they left but Paul and Pippa have now settled in as the new landlords. The pub is conveniently situated near two large hospitals and in an area frequented by students from Brookes University. Having said that it still feels homely with an open fire, dart board and partly covered garden/barbeque area.
The new licensees have expanded the bar food menu with additions such as melted cheese covered nachos, smoked salmon and dill fish cakes and Moroccan chicken as well as traditional pub favourites of fish & chips, pies, scampi and vegetarian options. On Sundays they serve two meats and two vegetarian options at lunch time.
Being tea total we are pleased to be offered tea and coffee as well as a wide range of soft drinks.
Unfortunately, the pub is located in a residential area, there is no nearby parking for non-residents.
As dog walkers we are especially pleased that Paul and Pippa are dog lovers who will provide water and treats for any four legged customers.
The pub can get very busy, especially on Friday evenings and when the Sunday Quiz Night is in progress. There are also darts teams based at the pub.
If you want a warm welcome, a variety of food and a homely atmosphere try this little culinary oasis in the heart of Headington.

Hidden in Headington Butchers Arms is a very nice example of a good local pub. In a cozy and homy enviroment you can enjoy a good selection of Ales and other Lagers and for sure each pint will be properly served. The Landlords and the staffs are extremely friendly and there is no way to do not feel comfortable there. Additionally, you can enjoy the old pictures of Headington on the wall close to the dart board, by the way is another enjoyable area in Butchers Arms, I have played some darts there (ask the landlord the special darts). I almost forget, the burguer is amazing (the fried brie is another temptation)!

This is a great local pub (rather conveniently located just around the corner from me), hidden away and only 2 minutes from London Road. They have a good selection of ales and lagers (honey dew is particularly good on tap).
I have not tried a main meal but I can vouch for the homemade banoffee pie - perfect with the pub quiz on a Sunday evening.
If you are willing to head off the main London Road Headington has some great pubs and this is definitely one of them.
