“an expensive disappointment”
Reviewed December 31, 2009

The thin walls make a full nights sleep is impossible, mainly from people walking up and down the corridor outside.
The location inconvenient.
The hotel prices extravagant especailly for 2 days breakfast for 2 £50! A meal I wouldnt have wasted my appetite on if the staff hadn't indicated that is was included with the room "please come down to breakfast served from 8 - 10"

Reception to hotel and staff were helpful and informative
Room was outstanding and well stocked with all amenites
However the single room booked for a relative was poor, split in the ceiling and paper peeling of wall, small and dark and only suitable for short term stay
Purpose of booking was to have a party but found the food was taking too long and cold when arrived undercooked and plates cold. Menu though provided was not true to form and several items of accessories such as cruet set and accompanying sauces/butters not brought to the table and clearly lack of coordination and organisation by the staff who were not working as a team
Restaurant pleasant but not large enough for the amount of people who were breakfasting there.
Most of the staff were European and their attitude lacking in personalty, possibly because of their origin/nationality although not unfriendlly were not communicative enough.
The first time this venue has been used but because of the above would not recommend to friends and colleagues as a first class service for holding and using for public or private functions

Title says it all! Have just returned from a two day break at this delightful hotel. Service was perfect, rooms warm, clean and bright with every amenity needed. Public rooms were bright and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was excellent - plenty of choice and faultless service. Though we didn't eat an evening meal, Sunday lunch was delicious and again excellent service in stylish surroundings.
Perfect location just 10-15 min walk to centre of Oxford with an abundance of attractions and eateries. And as parking is at a premium in Oxford being able to leave your car safely parked is a real bonus. For those less active a regular bus service runs just outside the hotel.
Look forward to satying here again.

Two nights bed and breakfast. Room was on the small side, but very clean and bright with a good bathroom and decent shower.

Nive bar area and lovely to sit on the terrace in the sunshine despite it being on a main road.

The only let down was the breakfast and restaurant service. Breakfast 8 to 10.30. Arrived at 9.30, and the buffet table was not replenished once. No glasses for juice and no orange juice, no fresh fruit. The cooked breakfast when it arrived tasted very nice, but was obviously not freshly cooked. On day two we had to ask to order our breakfast as it seems we were forgotten about in the corner! It's not that the restaurant was even busy.

A lovely weekend despite the poor start to both days.

This hotel has the feel of a quaint and charming bed and breakfast. The rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable. We stayed in a standard double room which came with a made to order hot breakfast with a continental buffet (excellent) The price was very reasonable given the excellent location right in the heart of Oxford. The bus stop is right out front and for a nominal fee you can be downtown in less than 5 minutes-for restaurants, shopping and sightseeing. The hotel offers "feature rooms" which are large and beautifully decorated-we were tempted to book one this time, but decided to wait for a special occasion. We didn't realize the hotel did not have air conditioning, but it was not a problem (and I am very picky and temperature sensitive!) . The hotel provided a fan and we opened the windows. A very pleasant and quiet sleep!! A tip if you are driving-check-in and park the car, take the bus downtown. Parking is very, very, expensive and hard to find in downtown Oxford. The hotel offers free parking which is a huge plus in that area!! We were very pleased with this charming hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Stayed here with work in July. was impressed overall with the hotel. Felt quite grand given its 3 star ratin. The restrant was excellent, if not a little on the small side for the main!
Bar was small and no staff serving on a number of occasions but not too long before someone came out and saw to us.
Overall good value for money - considering it was Oxford!

I recently stayed at the Cotswold Lodge and was disappointed. The hotel overall is looking a little shabby. My room was poor, a very old mattress on the bed, plumbing in the bathroom secured with sticky tape, and generally a worn feel. I think the owners stopped spending money on maintaining the hotel some time ago. It may have once deserved its four stars - but no longer does. I have stayed in cleaner, brighter, fresher Travel Lodges.

One receptionist was friendly and polite. The other two I encountered did not even make an effort to be pleasant or even to smile.

The location is beautiful and very convenient for the city centre, without city centre noise or bustle.

Cotswold Lodge is simply not worth the money. I was relieved to leave.
