Cotswold Lodge Hotel
Ranked #9 of 44 Hotels in Oxford
Reviewed February 12, 2008

I have to stay in various types of hotels for both personel and business reasons. i have stayed at the savoy , dorchester and even to holiday inn express over the years.
recently due to our son being in oxford univ my wife and i have been staying in various hotels in and around oxford and all i can say is the Cotswold is 1 of the nicest hotels i have stayed in.

i found the sevice and the attitude of all the staff to be exceptional, especially the manager of the restaurant who was woking late into the evening but also there 1st thing on the sunday morning, cheerful as ever.

the bedroom was old fashioned but my wife loves that. the courtyard was beautiful (maybe an issue in the summer nights!) but the room was very clean and bed comfortable. i would say the only down side was the noise from a function on sat night was still heard in the room but that was over by 11.

we found the meal in the restaurant to be excellent on the sat. night (the chef even made a stater for us not on menu!)
the breakfast was excellent and the staff were very accomodating on sunday morning making our stay most pleasurable.

i would have no hesitation in reccomending this hotel and i would even have a small conference at this venue

never mind a 3 star hotel i class this as 5 star

I stayed at the Cotswold for one week in Oct 2004 and again for two weeks in Oct 2005 while on a business trip. I found the hotel to be charming, and the reception personnel were especially polite and helpful, not to mention cheerful.

The hallways were a bit narrow, and the standard room I had was somewhat cramped. Nonetheless, the room was nicely decorated, had a large window, and was very quiet. It looked down on an interior garden that in warmer months might have been a source of some noise, but was quiet with only a few people having coffee and a cigarettes from time to time.

The room had television, phone, plenty of closet space, and a dresser. The private bath was shiny clean, white tiles, and plenty of fresh towels and soap daily. The only problem, or perhaps English charm, was the bath water... it only ever got a few steps above tepid in warmth, and the pressure was rather shy.

There was a lounge with a bar on the ground level offering a fairly varied selection of beers and spirits. Midweek, late at night, the night clerk has to man the bar as well as the reception, so service could be a bit spotty -- but we thought poking our heads out the door and signaling him that our glasses needed filling was a part of the charm. They let us play poker in the lounge as well.

Before going out evenings to dinner, my colleagues and I gathered and chatted in the drawing room opposite the restaurant. The room, cluttered with sofas, chairs and tables, was comfy and conducive to relaxation.

The Sixty Six restaurant was cozy and well appointed. I did not eat dinner there, but breakfast was unremarkable though hearty -- basic cereal and Continental buffet, with a menu offering full English breakfast items.

Overall, I'd stay again at the Cotswold if I could afford it on my own. (My stays were paid for, and it's a bit pricey.) I think the deepest impression was left on me by the young lady at reception who was a picture perfect English rose and extremely sweet-natured and personable, as well as being efficient and competent. She had a group of twenty of us descend on the hotel bussed from Heathrow very late at night, and she got us organized quickly and cheerfully. Makes a difference!

Stayed here for a one night as a trip away without the children.

As the title, the general theme of our stay was disappointing - I suppose I should have been warned by the time it took the receptionist to answer the phone when I first booked, but the web-site looked promising so I gave them the benefit of the doubt.

I'd booked an executive room in the hope of getting something nice. The room was big enough, but terribly dated in decor - nice if you like everything matching, even the cieling was wallpapered with the same design as the bedding - a long way from contempory! The bathroom was in need of some repair.

The service was not bad, but I sense that they don't need to try to hard and trade off their central Oxford location.

Restarant food was OK and breakfast good.

The Lodge is located a short distance from the center of Oxford, but well within walking distance to all major colleges and the city center.

The rooms are nice and well appointed, although the selection of TV channels is quite limited (eg., basically only the BBC). The restaurant in the hotel is very good and more than adequate, although a bit on the expensive side for the quality/quantity received. The hotel could also invest in some new mattresses for the rooms, our room had quite old and soft mattresses...be sure to ask for a firm mattress if your back needs one.

The hotel staff is very helpful and willing to help with any questions on Oxford or surrounding areas.

We stayed at the Cotswold Lodge Hotel on Sunday 19th August 2007 while at a friends wedding in Oxford.
We had driven down from North Yorkshire and arrived far too early to check in but the staff were really helpful and rallied round to get our room ready quickly for us.
We decided to have Sunday lunch in the hotel before going to the wedding and were amazed by just how good it was! Fabulous food, huge portions, just great!
All the staff we met were really friendly and very attentive to us and our 13 month old daughter.
The hotel is just a 3 minute drive or 10 minute walk from the centre of Oxford and although on a busy road we found it very quiet and peaceful with plenty of parking.
We had a good, but brief one night stay at this hotel and had no problems at all with noise or thin walls etc
We did not have breakfast as we stayed for just £50 for the night (total for the room) on a Sunday Special Room Only Offer, booked via Laterooms.com
Would definately recommend this hotel to all.
