Description: The Grapes is one of Oxford's landmark pubs as well as now being the only independent tavern on George Street. The Grapes was originally known as ‘The Bunch of Grapes’ and you can find references to one of the early Landlord's, a Mr Steven's, in Jackson's Oxford Journal of 1808. Many of the fine original features still stand from the 1894 refurbishment. The grand bar, tiled walls and wooden booths all transport you to old world Oxford. The Grapes has always been a prominent feature in Oxford's theaterland providing nourishment and libations for the pre-mid-and post-theatre crowds, not to mention the performers! A sturdy bell provided warning that the show would soon re-commence for those distracted theatre patrons. We’ve taken the best of the 1800’s and brought it freshly up to date with our broad range of beer, wine & spirits alongside a delicious food offering.

We arrived in Bath early morning, on a long weekend, and were looking for somewhere to have a spot of brunch. The Grapes looked promising, and we weren't disappointed. Inside it's a quaint little bar, beamed and with exposed walls, and floors that are a little up and downy, which made for some interesting table leg work, but we loved it! The pub was just beginning to fill up, and is clearly popular with locals and visitors alike.

We ordered a couple of the full English breakfasts, and they were delicious - the bacon in particular was very tasty, the eggs beautifully fried (no slimy bits!) and we didnt have long to wait (about 20 minutes). While we did wait, we had a couple of ciders, which were beautifully chillled. The barman on duty couldn't have been more hepful and was really working his socks off, serving food and drinks with equal good cheer.

A very welcoming venue whether for food or just a drink. Would definitely go back again.

Lunch on Thursday - great decor, great service, great menu - simple fare beautifully prepared - no fuss - no "froo froo" just good english pub stuff. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - will recommend and be back.

We really enjoyed the food and it was very reasonable in terms of price. A great place to catch up with friends and stay on for a drink

Went with 7 friends on a Sunday afternoon. We tried the roast and the fish and chips, all very tasty. Friendly service and nice beer. Will come back for sure.

I had a few hours to kill and sat in The Grapes with a book, a beer and a sandwich was the perfect way to do so. A gem hiding in plain sight in the middle of Oxford. The sandwich was fresh, the beer great and the atmosphere just what I was looking for.
