Good, large and clean room, centre of the town, nice stay, polite and welcoming service, TV and fridge in the room, free WF, but no breakfast in the morning. Probably too expensive, was £117 per a room for me, for the sort of accommodation.

The location is great, the room is clean and fitted with modern furniture. Or else nothing special, no breakfast provided. Should be rated as a good 3 stars hotel. The price is far to high compare to the services provided.

Although the frontage doesn't look that impressive- a glass door leading to a small staircase, the rooms are very good. At the top of the stairs is a small reception desk where one can check in. The hotel seems to have 10 rooms. I was in room 2. A smallish double room with an en suite shower room. The window looked out on the bustling George Street where the New Theatre, restaurants and bars are located. The room contained a gloriously comfortable double bed, ample lighting, a table which housed a welcome kettle and good quality drinks, a small fridge, a hair dryer and another lamp. There was a television attached to the wall, a full length mirror and an open hanging space and wardrobe area, which also housed an ironing board and iron. The shower was large enough for an average sized person - not sure whether it would do for a large individual, bit I was fine. A towel rail, and good quality toiletries as well. I expected a lot of noise, but there was very little. A good nights sleep was had and overall a very nice experience.

Although its stated to be a hotel. I would consider it more a motel as there were no hotel facilities. No foyer, no bar, no dining facilities, no lift etc. but due to the location this is not a problem.

There are also no parking facilities, but the Gloucester Green car park proved excellent and the RingO parking system is particularly useful.

The hotel is located right in the middle of the town and evet
Typing is to hand: the Ashmoleum is on the next street, the shops at the end of the street, the castle just a few hundred metres away.

Overall, highly recommend.

I cannot believe the negative reviews that complain of noise when they choose a hotel in a city centre!! For goodness sake!! This is my second visit to this lovely fledgling hotel. The owners/staff (I think a family concern) are delightful, the rooms spotless. There is no breakfast, but when you can nip over the road to the Four Candles (2 Ronnies inspired) and get the biggest fry up ever for under a fiver, who cares! It's located next to the theatre and above Jamies and right in the middle of any Oxford action your heart desires. The price is excellent for a city centre hotel. The beds come with high quality mattresses, so even if you are woken by street noise, getting comfy again is not going to be a problem!! the lady on reception did indicate thAt they are soon to install triple glazing, but quite frankly that's a minor gripe, or not a valid gripe in an ancient city building!! Definitely will stay for a third time if the occasion arises!

Room Tip: The higher up the building the better.

We chose Oxford for our girls weekend away as none of us had been there before. We booked the Bocardo, as the location was good and would enable us to explore the local area on foot. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly man who kindly helped with our bags. The rooms are small and the bathrooms smaller, but thats fine if you only plan to sleep there and it was clean and modern. We arrived back at our hotel room late that first night to discover that not only was there a very loud nightclub immediately opposite (not noticeable by day as it is a single doorway into a basement) but that half of its patrons appeared to be out on the street in front shouting, smoking and arguing until 4.30am!! Needless to say on less than two hours sleep, our weekend did not start well! Whilst we realise it was out of the hotels control, we decided that we were upset enough that we wanted to mention it to the nice man on the front desk. He knew before we even explained that we were upset about the noise. Not only did he NOT apologise, but he didn't entertain the suggestion of any kind of compensation. His only answer was to say he will speak to his manager. When we asked if we could speak to the manager, he flatly said, no! Turns out he was not so nice.

We then decided our only way to deal with it, was to either move to another hotel,(but we would still be charged as it was too late to cancel!), or to just stay out late, drink lots and hope the next night wouldn't be as bad! But yes, you guessed it, it was equally as bad, despite the fact that we had had lots of alcohol, went to bed late AND purchased ear plugs, none of us could sleep due to the noise. One of our rooms had a secondary glazing panel but the other had nothing (not that that would have made any difference). On check out a nice lady served us, who apologised and said this is a very common complaint from her guests but nothing she could do but offer us £6 off! The staff had obviously been told to rehearse a response to this very common complaint. We asked for the managers name so that we could write to him, only to find that the man who had told us we couldn't speak to the manager the previous day, WAS the manager! Obviously he didn't want to deal with us!

Needless to say we have returned home today, more exhausted and tired than we have been in years! All we needed was a bit of honestly when making the booking. It is not acceptable to simply ignore the fact it is on top of a nightclub, just because it is a separate business. Surely they should have some kind of responsibility towards their guests, who simply want to do the one thing they have paid for- sleep! To pay £544 for two nights and only get offered £6 each compensation is ridiculous!!

The 'manager' was unhelpful and a liar. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE!!!

The room was minuscule, excessively hot, poorly ventilated, and hugely overpriced. Paper thin walls, no breakfast, dusty teabags (seriously!), and noisy.

The service was questionable bordering on rude. On balance I would say this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

Avoid!

Stayed here with my wife for 1 night, looking to explore Oxford over a couple of day.
Plus points on the accomodation - very good location, (plenty of bars & food places on the door step, 3-4 min walk to Ashmolean museum & other tourist musts close by) very comfy bed & generally clean room. Good Wifi available.
Down sides - quite a bit of noise over night from the bars (& this was on a Tuesday night!), you can only check in between 2pm & 7pm so avoid if you need a late check in, heated floor did not work (but room plenty warm enough), room very small, especially for the price.
I have stayed in better for less, so wouldn't stay there again. If you can get cheap, I'd stay there, but would avoid for the standard rates.
