The proximity of this hotel cannot be faulted. You are in the centre of Oxford and in every direction there is something to look at and do. The closeness to restaurants, pubs and cafes is perfect. We were going to eat at a restaurant a little further out of town but on a cold February evening the pull of 'Jamie's Italy' under the hotel was too good to be missed.

The room was clean, warm, adequate and modern but being a boutique hotel in the inner city it was snug to say the least. We struggled to move around the room and found the en-suite very tiny. The AA rating is 5 stars. We looked this up on the AA website and we were not totally convinced that we would have given it this rating. Some parts of the room were tired in need of a little TLC but nothing drastic. There were no breakfast facilities but you could easily acquire breakfast in any direction from the hotel. We were in a back room and the drone of the air conditioning units from the theatre next door didn't lead to a brilliant nights sleep. Our opinion was that is was over priced.

The issue of parking can be resolved. We used the Pear Tree park and ride for the daytime and the bus stop is opposite the hotel. During the evening we needed secure parking and used the Gloucester Street indoor overnight parking. Not cheap but safe.

The welcome from the young man at the reception desk was lovely and he was extremely helpful and polite.

Room Tip: Don't get a room at the back of the Hotel. If you need a lift or would struggle on steep stairs...

I stayed here for one night. It's a good central location for Oxford. The staff were very friendly and top marks to them for customer service. However the room fell well below expectations for £105.00 (single occupancy). It was freezing cold. The only heating was the radiator and underfloor heating in the bathroom. One of the windows in the bedroom was broke - completely missing the bit that closes it - so the cold air was coming in. This window was also big enough for a person to climb through so I was seriously worried about someone breaking into the room during the night. There was a wet patch on the bedroom carpet near the bathroom - assuming this was a leaking pipe from the bathroom. There was a constant drone outside window of either an airconditioning unit or central heating unit so not easy for sleeping - could even hear it with earplugs. General cleanliness was good, bed was comfy, there was some very nice coffee, and again the staff were lovely. But overall, this is overpriced and in need of maintenance work. They also don't do breakfast!

Room Tip: I'm thinking a lot of Oxford hotels are like this, unless you go with one of the better known ch...

The Bocardo is ideal for a short couple of days break in Oxford.
It is new, clean, modern and reasonably priced.
If you accept you are just looking for a place to sleep and not a "normal" hotel this is it.
The rooms are modern, comfortable with all the usual amenties and staff pleasant.
The location is ideal right in the centre of Oxford with all the main features within walking distance.
Although no breakfast the cafe next door is great.

The Bocardo is in a great location and is a unique well-managed property. As has been indicated in other reviews, this property doesn't fit a typical "hotel" profile. It's kind of like a hotel rooming house. There's a check-in, up a flight of stairs, with a small number of rooms located down narrow hallways. My room was smaller than I expected. The bathroom was quite small, with a teeny size sink, but everything was very adequate and functional, and the shower was great. The room was clean and relatively well appointed, and the price was good compared to other accommodations in the area. There seems to be a focus on things most noticeable to travelers, such as a very good TV and internet access, quality soaps, etc. The plus to the location is that it's in the heart of the primary Oxford University area. The negative is that road noise woke me up early. Anthony at the front desk was very customer service focused. For one or two nights, this is a very good property for consideration, provided your hotel needs aren't complicated.

Very pleasant staff. And very clean and good facilities. I do however think it is overpriced and not at all a 5 star hotel as stated, the photographs are rather misleading. It was quite noisy as it being so central. There is no one on reception after 7pm, and as a young female travelling alone, not perhaps the best place for security.

The Bocardo is conveniently situated in the centre of town, over Jamie's Italian. The staff are very helpful and the room is immaculate. Due to the location there is some noise late at night from the street. I hadn't realised breakfast is not provided but there is a cafe about 10 yards away. It was on offer when I booked and not sure I would have wanted to pay full price but I would happily book again.

We stayed at the Hotel last weekend as it is bang in the center of Oxford.
The room was nice and contemporary and had the best shower i have ever experienced!
The Hotel does not do food but there are probably a dozen pubs/ restaurants within 5 minutes walk so this is no problem.
There were plenty of shampoo and soap bottles unlike our last trip to a 5 star hotel in Newport where they only provided enough for one shower.
The man on the front desk "Anthony" was a pleasant chap who could not be more helpful in recommending us a place for breakfast, (next door) and cheap car parking!

In a nutshell, if you are just looking for a place to get your head down then this ticks all the boxes.

Room Tip: Other reviews said they could hear noise from the street below but we had a room facing the courtyar...
