The Bocardo is in a great location and is a unique well-managed property. As has been indicated in other reviews, this property doesn't fit a typical "hotel" profile. It's kind of like a hotel rooming house. There's a check-in, up a flight of stairs, with a small number of rooms located down narrow hallways. My room was smaller than I expected. The bathroom was quite small, with a teeny size sink, but everything was very adequate and functional, and the shower was great. The room was clean and relatively well appointed, and the price was good compared to other accommodations in the area. There seems to be a focus on things most noticeable to travelers, such as a very good TV and internet access, quality soaps, etc. The plus to the location is that it's in the heart of the primary Oxford University area. The negative is that road noise woke me up early. Anthony at the front desk was very customer service focused. For one or two nights, this is a very good property for consideration, provided your hotel needs aren't complicated.

Very pleasant staff. And very clean and good facilities. I do however think it is overpriced and not at all a 5 star hotel as stated, the photographs are rather misleading. It was quite noisy as it being so central. There is no one on reception after 7pm, and as a young female travelling alone, not perhaps the best place for security.

The Bocardo is conveniently situated in the centre of town, over Jamie's Italian. The staff are very helpful and the room is immaculate. Due to the location there is some noise late at night from the street. I hadn't realised breakfast is not provided but there is a cafe about 10 yards away. It was on offer when I booked and not sure I would have wanted to pay full price but I would happily book again.

We stayed at the Hotel last weekend as it is bang in the center of Oxford.
The room was nice and contemporary and had the best shower i have ever experienced!
The Hotel does not do food but there are probably a dozen pubs/ restaurants within 5 minutes walk so this is no problem.
There were plenty of shampoo and soap bottles unlike our last trip to a 5 star hotel in Newport where they only provided enough for one shower.
The man on the front desk "Anthony" was a pleasant chap who could not be more helpful in recommending us a place for breakfast, (next door) and cheap car parking!

In a nutshell, if you are just looking for a place to get your head down then this ticks all the boxes.

Room Tip: Other reviews said they could hear noise from the street below but we had a room facing the courtyar...

Its a really nice hotel, perfect location right in the middle of Oxford centre. The hotel its self is small but the rooms are a good size and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They recommended us some really nice 'off the map' tourist locations. Would definitely go back there again.

The Bocardo is an excellent place to stay in Oxford if you like immaculately presented rooms, spotless clean en-suite facilities and a great location. Beds are comfortable and in the room there is an excellent flat-screen TV, plus tea and coffee and decent free WiFi.

I have stayed their frequently, and would happily rebook anytime.

However, apart from the excellent rooms, the hotel is somewhat spartan, with a part-time reception desk. However the team will deal with any unexpected problems and stay in close proximity.

En-suite facilities are usually a shower, WC, sink and vanity unit. Shower is fixed-head, but powerful and never short of hot water.

There is also no catering in the hotel, but there are nearby patisseries open from 6am and restaurants open till late.

Finally, it's central location is ideal but if you are a light sleeper, be aware that street-noise may disturb your stay, but with the double glazed windows and air conditioning, this can be mitigated. I've never been troubled by this, but I sleep heavily.

All in all, an excellent and stylish room and an immaculate bathroom. Comfortable and restful.

Room Tip: Rooms 8 and 9 are the pick.

It looks quite good at first sight. But it is in the details. Our door to the bathroom could not be closed. The worst thing was the music of the club opposite. You cannot sleep unless you can in a disco.
