“Good value”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

This hotel is not in central Oxford - it is clear from the description that it's next to the Kassam Stadium so it seems rather pointless to me to complain that you didn't know its location.

The room are standard Holiday Inn - furnished with the essentials, clean, good shower. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. The car park was a big plus for me.

Breakfast (included in the rate) had a choice of pastries, toast and jams, several cereals and hot choice as well. Sausages a bit bready but at £64 per night all in I wasn't expecting gourmet food.

Staff were friendly the room pleasent, cl;can and they now provide a breakfast of sorts which a year ago was simply not available. The Hotel is not particularly well placd for Oxford though and is next to one of the worst housing estates in the UK so car park security is an issue. It's also next to the large soccer stadium which may be a bonus or not depending on you sporting view. Fpr me it was not but there was no match on when I was there so not really an issue. There is a reasonable restaurant on the near by entertainment complex and a a surprising ly good pub there too.

I have to say there are better Hotels in Oxford for a similar price so it only gets an average mark from me. Personally I MUCH prefer the Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel for example but there are lots more.‎

Thank you for posting your comments. I would just like to say that your comments about the local estate are unfair. We do not security issues in our carpark

went to this holiday inn express for two night break 17 aug 2012, so we could explore the city of oxford, a little worried as we have only stayed in holiday inn hotels before which are great, was not dissapointed at all. A bright clean modern hotel, staff were wonderful very friendly, and attentive. great free breakfast, the coffee was wonderful, cant wait to go back, the location was great for access to all the oxford landmarks, also show your keycard at the local eateries including a lovely pub on the river to get a 10% discount on your food bill

Room Tip: make sure you do not have a ground floor room as the car park is right outside the windows could be...

We stayed here for one night whilst visiting oxford. The hotel itself was a little tricky to find as the sat nav led us to the entertainment complex nearby but we were then informed that it was located behind the football stadium. there was ample free parking and we had a double room with a shower which was clean and adequate for our needs. Oxford itself was about a 10-15 minute driveaway and you would need a taxi or a bus ride to get there. Breakfast was a selection of cooked items, cereal, croissants, muffins, teas coffees etc which again was of a reasonable standard. All in all a good stay for a good price.

This was my first time staying in a Holidayinn Express and it was quite pleasant.
There were 7 of us with two families and booked 3 rooms with teenagers.
The hotel was quite clean and the staff were friendly.
I agree with the comments of breakfast Kaos in the morning, we were quite lucky to obtain a table on Saturday but Sunday morning was very quite.
The cooked items like beans scrambled eggs and sausages were of very low quality. The rest of the continental items were fine. Coffee and tea was below standard.
The room was nice and clean but the beds were not comfortable at all, but ok for one or two nights stay.
We went for a meal at the American Frankie and Benny's which was only 5 mins walk where bowling and other restuarants were.
We took a taxi to Oxford centre which is about 15 mins and the cost was £10's, there was a regular bus service about 10 mins walk away.
The bar was as expected quite steep in price as I paid £8.20 for a pint of Carling and a G&T!
Overall not a bad experience and we would stay there again in the future.
The bonus point was that the Leicester Tigers were playing on Sunday at the Kasam stadium only a stones throw away.

Driving into the car park, I saw loads of people smoking by the main door, and several with bottled drinks in their hands. Not a good first inpression. The check in was quick, and the room spacious and clean. The wi-fi was a ridiculous price £9 for 24 hours, with no timer, even when you logged out it still ran, so was ticking away while I was sleeping!
This place is not really for solo travelers, it's geared up mainly for conference and stadium. I was visiting friends nearby, but will not be using this or any Holiday Inn again, mostly because of the charge for wi-fi. It's free in even the most basic of Hotels now, and they need to be more flexible with cancellations.

My husband and I spent a weekend here as a base for visiting Oxford.
Check-in went smoothly, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the hotel was very clean.
The room was adequate for our stay, with tea and coffee making facilities.
There are plenty of eateries and entertainment facilities within a five-minute walk, and a regular bus service into Oxford is a short walk away.
On the down-side, the hotel is within spitting distance of a football stadium. Also, the breakfast set-up could be better. It was like being in a cattle market, and finding a seat was almost impossible. The food on offer was more than adequate.
On the whole, this hotel is good value for money, and is an affordable alternative to staying in Oxford itself.
