When visiting Brookes Restaurant, you are instantly met with a professional and friendly atmosphere as soon as you step through the door. The student run restaurant is located in the heart of the university’s campus, and delivers faultless customer service. Open five days a week, the restaurant offers a campus lunch, monthly menu as well as a carefully thought out and delicious selection of blackboard specials. The selection of wine match the dishes perfectly, and all the locally sourced ingredients add to the flavour and entire meal experience.

On arrival, we were greeted by attentive and friendly staff which continued throughout the whole meal. All staff looked professional and smartly dressed, which added to the positive image and ambience of the restaurant. The students of the hospitality school, who served and prepared our food, were knowledgeable of the menu and observant of all our needs.

Our meal consisted of Glazed Fairford Partridge with lentil salad and damson vinaigrette, a perfect combination of ingredients creating a taste sensation. The tenderness of the meat was complimented well with the sweetness of the vinaigrette. Following this, there was the option of a Honey Roasted Belly of Kelmscott Pork, beautifully cooked and well presented. An alternative option was the Cornish Gurnard, which was delicately accompanied by a bouillabaisse reduction and anchovy beignet. Both main courses were unique and of a high standard. Finishing the meal was a Waterperry Pear Crumble with a cinnamon custard and rosemary syrup. This dish completed the meal with a sweet and perfect combination of textures and flavour.

After the great customer service and delicious food, we would both recommend and return to Brookes restaurant without hesitation. It’s a credit to the university.

Brookes Restaurant is located in a well hidden position by the School of Hospitality Management and is open for lunch 5 days a week. The unique aspect of Brookes restaurant is that the kitchen and restaurant is staffed by students from the Hospitality school. There are two different set menus including two or three courses with the blackboard specials and the campus lunch. There is an extensive selection of fine wines from all over the world and dishes are made from locally sourced ingredients reflecting British seasonality.

The restaurant was incredibly welcoming and has a friendly and attentive level of customer service. Members of staff are knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the menu and the food being served, adding to the professional ambience of the restaurant.

Starters chosen included chicken livers which were very flavoursome, but were dressed with an unusual combination of gingerbread and pears. After this followed Cornish Pollock served with wild mushrooms and a tapenade broth, which was delicious. The flavour from the white wine recommended by the waiter complemented the dish beautifully. The special of lentil and pumpkin casserole was well presented and had distinct spicy flavours. For dessert was a Tiramisu, which in the words of an Italian, was “almost as good as the original from Italy” and we both loved the caramelised banana with peanut butter ice cream!

From this memorable experience, we would most certainly eat at the Brookes Restaurant again and would recommend the excellent service and high quality food to anyone visiting Oxford.

If you live in Oxford or anywhere near why would you go anywhere else? Clearly this place is run by professional team but staffed by students, but the food is cracking and very "effikal" in its sourcing. 4 of us enjoyed dishes that you would expect to see in a fine dining restaurant charging at least double the price of Brookes. Definitely will return and will tell friends.

We wonder why we haven't been here before: we shall certainly go again soon. I think it's got the best ambience of all the restaurants in Oxford . Excellent service, delicious food, good wines, amazing value, relaxed, quiet ,comfortable atmosphere for lunch. We'll try the evening next: I notice they're already taking bookings for Christmas lunch and dinner. Almost makes one look forward to December.

Enjoyed a graduation lunch here. The University offers courses on catering and hospitality, amongst other courses, so you might expect that things here have to be just right and they certainly are! As the students had gone down for the summer, the staff, who are also tutors, provide an excellent service. The dining room is light and airy and the tables are not too close to each other so meals can be enjoyed in some comfort.
On arrival the welcome is both professional and friendly and the menu offers a not too large a choice. I am always suspicious of menus that have a long list of choices......frozen, perhaps? Not here - the food is freshly and very well cooked.
Our starters included a subtle and delicious asparagus soup and the main courses chosen included chicken (moist, fresh, delicious) and a Thai prawn curry (equally pleasing). Sweets were also mouth watering.
The menu changes regularly and evidence from friends suggests that it never falls below the very high standard the University sets itself. (I have to add that I have no connection with the University other than attending a friends' graduation lunch.)
The restaurant is a little way out from the city centre but I think it benefits from that in that it is a much quieter environment. It is well served by a bus route with a stop exactly opposite the University. I am advised that booking is usually required.
This is a must visit again restaurant and one that is highly recommended.
