“Classic Oxford pub, modern Oxford prices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2012

Lovely place, with its good beers, tasty food, wonderful tie collection and head-banging low beams. But 12 quid for a small glass of white wine, a pint of weak "session" beer and a J2O? I know I've been living abroad for a while now, but that's surely a lot in anyone's money. Imagining myself a student again, the boast would not be how many pints you could drink, but how many you could finance.

“Check your bill!”

I took some tourist friends to Oxford and we ended up in this pub. Bought two medium glasses of wine, two small Cokes and two bags of crisps. Was charged £16.50. As we were laughing and chatting with the (perfectly nice) barman while paying, I only realised afterwards what a ridiculous amount I had been charged. Obviously they think that tourists don't realise the value of money.

“Great place, friendly and excellent food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2012

We came here with our family as a meeting point after my cousin's Christening. The Bear provided us with a finger food buffet like no other! We had everything from mini home-made burgers with relish to miniature quiches, prawn kebabs and asparagus wrapped in ham. Also we had the best home-made chips ever! I thought they really went all out to make sure we had a good time, the service was as excellent as the food!
