“Quick, tasty feed”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

A group of work colleagues and I visit on our lunch break after it was recommended to us. From the outside I was quite surprised to find a thai restaurant in such an old fashioned english looking pub. In the bar area it was obvious that it still served its purposed as a local beer haunt but in the back we were served delicious food. The food came very quickly and was very flavoursome. The lunch deal was very good value for money and I am sure we will be back very soon!

“Good Thai food”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

She warned us. I told her I like it Thai hot and she complied. "be very careful she said". Actually, the food was delicious. The restaurant is in back of what looks like an ancient pub. The service was great and the food even better. I recommend this tasty Thai food.

“Diluted taste”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

Four of us (from Sydney) tried the Thai food at The Old Tom pub. Although the portions were generous, we all thought that the taste of the food had missed the true taste of Thailand food – we have all been to Thailand recently. The staff were friendly and the food was hot (heat, not spicy) and we had the feeling that the spiciness had been diluted for the British palate, which was disappointing. The prices of the food were fair.

“Excellent Thai in neat pub.”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

Overall excellent meal. They didn't give us a lunch menu though, and the prices were a bit more for lunch than some comparable places. I see a menu on the website, would have been a better deal.

1 curry, 1 noodle and a soup. Tom Yum soup was surprisingly spicy, and maybe a bit heavy on the lemongrass, but the flavors of galangal, lemongrass, tamarind, fish sauce etc were all there, they were fresh, and it was very good. The red curry was good, but lacking a bit of punch. The pad se-eaw noodle dish was a highlight, noodles were stir fried well on high heat and had a great flavor. Also have 3 cask beers along with the usual suspects.

Overall, well worth checking out.

“Good Thai food, Good Value, Good service, plus its a pub! perfect!”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

We keep returning to this place whenever we visit Oxford.

Located by christchurch College and named after the college's bell, this has been a pub since the 1750's. It now appears to be run by a thai family who for the past 4 years, serve a relatively small, but very tasty selction of thai food at the rear of this characteristically medieval, long narrow pub (the front has been left more "pub like" and is tastefully decorated with a selection of papers to read and a well laid out bar, noramlly with some non intrusive accoustic style music in the background).

There are approximately 6 or 8 starters including some huge tempura prawns in chilli dipping sauce and the hot but delicious varaiants on thai soups. The red and green curry's are firm favourites with us as main courses with enough to fill a hungry tummy, but theres also a selection of stir fried food with or without chilli's, satay sauces etc.

Service is excellent and they are very friendly, Booze is very reasonable, like the food (a bottle of house white is £11 and a red curry main, I think is about £7.50). If you wish just to sit in the front or the small back courtyard for a drink it is no problem. It never appears to be overcrowded but likewise there are always several groups of people in what is a small venue.

Definitely worth visiting if you are staying for a couple of days in the city.
