“Weekend in Oxford 10th & 11th August '12”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

Just stayed two nights at the Four Pillars, Friday & Saturday. Have no complaints whatsoever regarding this hotel, ample parking, quick & efficient check in, polite & friendly staff throughout. Nice clean room with good facilities. We ate at the in-house restaurant on the Saturday evening, booked a table via reception but still plenty of tables. Food was very good and the service was excellent.
The only downside was the door banging that went on until gone midnight, not the hotel's fault just selfish guests who had no respect for anyone else after they had "a sniff of the barmaid's apron".
The Hotel is in an excellent location, through a gate, down a path through fields and you are at the Thames, quick left turn along the river bank and a short stroll to the city centre.
We have stayed in a few hotels but this has been the best so far.

We stayed here last September for a friends wedding. We found the hotel lovely and relaxing, (or maybe that was the fact we were away for the first time as a couple in years!) The hotel staff we found to be friendly and the food in the hotel of a good standard. The breakfast was ample and plenty of choice, some say a bit expensive, possibly but I didnt have to cook or wash up so I didnt mind paying. We had actually booked into the wrong Four Pillars hotel, and they soon sorted us out into the right one and had a room ready on arrival. The grounds where lovely and the room spacious and clean. I didnt get chance to use the pool sadly as I didnt know it had one with booking the wrong hotel orignally. We had a lovely time here and would reccommend it to couples and families alike as a lot of our friends had gone as a family.

I stayed 4 nights and arrived to find myself upgraded to a room within Eastwyke House in the grounds of the hotel. The room was excellent, very comfortable, and well furnished. I agree with some reviews that the breakfast is good but am not sure it justifies the £12.95 additional charge which I paid. The location is excellent, a 15 minute stroll into the city centre, passing the Head of the River which is unmissable and worth a review of its own.

My husband and I recently stayed here for a business function that was held at the hotel. The hotel is a short walk away from the center of Oxford (about 15 minutes). That being said, I don't mind walking at all - although I know others may. The walk is right along the river, and it is picturesque. My husband and I also used the trail for running in the morning. Breakfast was somewhat of a disappointment, as I didn't think the quality of the food was high enough to justify the price. I also agree with others the the walk to the room can be quite long, depending on which room you are in. The staff was very helpful, and even lent us an adapter so we could charge our computers (US chargers).

We were visiting the area for one night and this hotel fitted us location wise. We arrived at the hotel early, the night before we had checked to see if we could park on site before a family gathering - nothing was a problem, even one of the rooms was ready for us, so we were able to sort out bags, freshen up etc. We had 2 rooms, 1 even had it's own patio :) the staff were great, the bar area was really nice, as it was olympics there was a great atmosphere. The breakfast was a lovely help yourself buffet and being a vegetarian it was great to have some really nice vegetarian sausages :)

We stayed 3 nights midweek and had a very pleasant time. Our room was clean and spacious with a balcony, double bed, sofa bed, armchair etc and all the little trimmings inc. free minibar. There was a nice view of water meadows and horses. Its about a 15 minute walk to the city centre and there are frequent buses passing by. All the staff were helpful and courteous and were very very quick to respond to our little requests. We were asked on arrival if we had already booked a breakfast. We had not done so, so we were given 20% discount vouchers for the restaurant for an evening meal and a breakfast.
The only minus was the food. Both the Lounge/bar and the dining room were very nice and staff attentive but the food in both was overpriced for what it was and was fine but nothing special. We had a couple of meals in a lovely nearby pub called 'The Head of The River' which were tastier and cheaper.

Some reviews have mentioned long corridors. Yes, there were longish corridors but there are several lifts to each floor and room numbers are well signposted and we cannot see this as a problem at all. We would recommend this hotel and the city of Oxford. We had a great time

Stopped at this hotel for 2 nights whilst on a course. The standard of service from check in was fantastic. The people at reception were very attentive and helped me to my room with my luggage.

The food both for room service and in the restaurant at all times of the day was really good. Breakfast has lots to offer, the lunch was served as a buffet style with 4 different main course choices and the evening meal again was really tasty, well cooked, and good value for money.

The rooms are really clean and the towels are bigger than a postage stamp which is always good too!

The spa is reasonable and has last minute appointments available too.

If I was going to Oxford again, I would definitely pick this hotel.
