Holiday Inn Oxford
Ranked #10 of 44 Hotels in Oxford

We have visited Oxford a few times as a couple and also in a group and quickly found that parking in central Oxford is a non starter. The Holiday Inn is a couple of miles outside Central Oxford but public transport is excellent to and from here with 'park and ride' next door. Parking at the hotel is free and being pensioners we also get free travel on public transport which we take full advantage of .
The hotel is modern and spacious and well maintained and is reasonably priced. We do not take advantage of the sports/gym/swimming facilities which we should really as they are tip top. The hotel restaurant we found to be a bit on the pricey side with a fairly restricted menu but with so many restaurants in Oxford itself this was not a major drawback.
This hotel is a must for tourists to Oxford for several reasons. Firstly it is situated close to Blenheim Palace which is a must for a visit and being so expansive cannot really be seen in a day. Secondly Oxford is Mecca for Morse fans and is home to so many well known buildings.
The Reception Staff are very knowledgeable and know the Oxford area well which from a tourist point can be a godsend when seeking advice.
These are the reasons (briefly) why I would recommend this hotel and we will return.

Room Tip: Although the hotel is situated very close to a busy main road it is suitably quiet whatever room you...

We stayed for three nights...we were attending a wedding in Oxford and the hotel prices in town were outrageous! This Holiday in was only 5 miles from the city center. The room here worked out to $144 per night and we were very happy with all the amenities....also nice and clean and spacious. You can get a Starbucks from the bar, or a full service Starbucks right across the parking lot. Walking distance to the bus that takes you into Oxford...2.25 pounds round trip. Only drawback is places to eat...there is the hotel restaurant (pricey) or a Kentucky Fried Chicken across the parking lot! Room was great...free WIFI if you sign up for Holiday Rewards Club (free). The staff was very friendly and helpful..enjoyed Todd and his sense of humor!

I spent 3 nights visiting Oxford area for leisure break in August. I was on my own so wanted to feel safe and welcome. I considered booking a delux but decided on a standard double on low non refundable rate. I was pleased Id not upgraded as it was lovely, very spacious, clean and modern and good VFM. I do agree with earlier review though that beds are harder than id like. Generally quiet in corridors apart from loud door banging as closers quite severe, All staff friendly and helpful, I had a few minor reasons to call down and all dealt with promptly and with a smile. Breakfast good quality and choice, well managed and nice environment. I had room service meal which was really good, filling home cooked not just chain standard heated up fayre. Location is good as its easy to get to from m'ways and easy into Oxford, Blenheim and Bicester etc.

Only slight downside is the location looks a little off putting as you arrive as its in a service area with forecourts, petrol and coach parks etc, but dont be put off all thats unseen once inside. One comment I would make for single travellers is that the park and ride is a short walk away which in daytime is no trouble. You have to cross the service area, up some makeshift steps, walk beside the dual carridigeway a few yards & alongside a nice treelined stream. But in the dark coming back thats not so nice when you are on your own! Though area feels safe and nothing happened, its just quickens your step!

TIP Some rooms at rear overlook leafy banked area and give the impression of being in a nicer location than those overlooking car park and service area. Try for one of those on high floor.

Room Tip: One overlooking leafy areas at rear.

We stayed with our two young children (3 years, 6 months) and grandparents in adjoining rooms. Check in was simple and quick. Car park was close to the main entrance and had a security code and CCTV for added security, not that there seemed to be any reason for extra security, as the pear tree roundabout isn't exactly a hotbed of crime. Rooms were clean and housekeeping staff responded quickly to a few minor issues that came up (needed tissue box filled, adjoining doors were locked, etc.) The room had a cooler/fridge for storing baby food and some milk we purchased at Waitrose, which is less than a five min walk across the parking lot from the hotel entrance. We all enjoyed the squeaky clean swimming pool, which is operated by the on site health club. Breakfast buffet had a good variety of hot and cold options, and staff ensured food was always fresh. All in all, we had a great stay. The only negative was that the beds were too firm for our taste, so we woke up with back pain, but my parents liked the beds. All a matter of personal preference.

We spent 3 nights at the beginning of August here for our wedding anniversary. On arrival Staff were friendly and helpful. Room on 2nd floor was very nice and comfortable and very clean. The hotel is ideal for touring as it is adjacent to a very usefull and efficient park & ride service to Oxford. We had breakfast each day and the quality & service was very good. The bar/restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful but inobtrusive. All in all a very nice hotel.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms seem to be best for quiet.
