“Information overload”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

Great place to see and learn. Not much interactive stuff, displays crammed packed and quite dark in places. Kids were given a torch, could have done with one for the grown up visitors to really see displays clearly. Would definitely go back and I am sure there is much I missed the Irish time around.

“Overwhelming”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

This museum has about ten times more items in store than they exhibit but boy, you wouldn't think so. The whole experience was overwhelming. Show case after show case crammed with related items which showed that human beings all over the world have found similar solutions to similar problems. I particularly liked the display on "tally sticks". But I cannot give the museum more stars because the very number of exhibits made it difficult to see any one in particular. If you are studying a particular subject deeply, this is a place to go to see a range of associated objects, but for the lay person it was a bit too much.

“A fab, free, educational experience!”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

I remember coming here as a child with school and thinking the place was amazing. I bring my own children here on a regular basis now and they love it. There are always activities to do, fact sheets and little hunts. In the holidays they often have craft activities too, but it can get very busy! The kids have also been on school trips too, and much like myself they never seem to tire of the place. Its so vast with so much to see and do, you will always discover something new on every visit.
All this for free (a donation would obviously be well recieved to keep it free though) I always put £3-£5 in the pot.

“Interesting and free excursion”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Despite renovation work under way this is a lovely building with a great interior. Interesting artefacts from around the world and we liked the dark lighting which added atmosphere. Will be good to return when the main hall is refurbished. £2 donation per visitor suggested. Get the lift to the top floor then work your way down.
