This (plus the attached Natural History Museum) is a great, old-fashioned museum, full to the brim of curiosities. If you have an interest in weird and wonderful items like shrunken heads, this is the place for you. You'll also find Oxford students lounging in the dark privacy of the back. In fact it is all quite dark, which helps preserve the exhibits I should imagine. Lots to see, but small children get fed up quite quickly as everything is behind glass and it is, did I menion, very dark.

I could come back here again and again. The cases are crowded very close together and it is so dark that the labels are often hard to read, but everything is so fascinating that you don't mind. This is one of the great museums of the world. It seems that every ethnic group is represented. Several times I found myself wondering what some of these things would bring on ebay! (Just kidding.) One suggestion. The shrunken heads should be stored away.

The Pitts Rivers Museum is fantastic, there is so much information that even as an adult I learnt a lot that I did not know! I do think though that there is a lot to see in the museum and its not laid out as effectively as it could be. However saying that we made our way round in about 2 hours but didn't see everything! Definitely worth a visit!!!!

Take a stroll through David Attenborough's mind!
The museum contains relics from every corner of the planet, brought back to Oxford when it was not politically incorrect so to do.
I suspect there are a few demons and ghosts at large once the last visitor leaves!

Always fun for wandering around and marvelling at the curiosities: something new every time I go. Great fun to take some children and drop them off there.
