“Overall A Good Watering Hole”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2014

Nice, cosy pub with nice nooks and crannies for a giggly gossip or small dens for a banter between a larger group.
Staff very friendly and patient with non-english speakers for the most part. The bearded gent had a somewhat odd take on customer service on one of the occasions i was here with holidayers. A little puzzling but c'est la vie!

Worth the minute's walk for a quick one at least.

“Drop in, don't just walk by!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014

So we have been walking by the Lamb and Flag for the better part of the last year - always rushing from A to B, always heading somewhere else. As fortune would have it, we were waiting for a friend and decided the Lamb and Flag was the right place at the right time for a pint. I am so glad we finally dropped in!

The inside is as quaint as you may imagine having viewed the outside. They have ample seating areas laid out in several rooms, not counting seating in the area directly near the bar. There was at least one large fireplace which will be wonderful for warming during the colder months. Their tables were spotlessly clean and decorated with nice crisp coaster advertising the delicious beer on tap and in cask.

The bar tender was very courteous and enthusiastic as we asked about the different beers they had on tap and cask. We finally ordered a pint and sat making houses for his new miniature T-Rex (from the History museum) out of the coasters with our 2 1/2 year old (who loved it) for 30 minutes. While we didn't order any food this visit, the menu looked excited and we are planning to take the in-laws there when they visit in a couple weeks (I'll add to the review).

Positioned on a pivotal, cobbled passage connecting the congested and touristy St. Giles area with the more University centred Parks Road, the old pub is perfectly positioned for lunch after visiting either the Ashmolean (on Beaumont Street) or the Natural History/Pitt Rivers (off Parks Road). Definitely worth making the time to drop in when in Oxford!

More to come soon from our next visit!

“Old pub, good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2014

Visited here for a drink on a Saturday afternoon over a bank holiday weekend en-route from the Pitt Rivers museum to the Ashmolean; it was fairly busy but we were served pretty quickly amd managed to get somewhere to sit. Drinks were reasonably priced, and even though we didn't eat the food looked pretty good.

“Best Ploughman's Ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2014

A nice stroll halfway from the Ashmolean to Pitt Rivers this is a perfect lunchtime watering hole. Good real ales and an excellent Ploughman's Lunch with a choice of any two items, cheeses (from 4) or pork pie (homemade) or ham (again homemade).

“Classic pub with average food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2014

Went there for the sunday lunch. Pub is nice and has a local selection of beers and ciders. Menu is very classic, no fingerfood or burgers, it's more about pies, meat and sandwiches. Had a pie, portion was big but quality was average. Friend had a scrembled egg on toast, which wasn't warm anymore and HP sauce wasn't available at all.
