“Great Oxford Pub”

Great pub, food is excellent value and always a great selection of real ales. Downside is that it can get very busy at peak times.

“Worst Sunday Roast Ever!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2014 via mobile

Last week was our third visit to the Turf Tavern over the last three years and We were hugely disappointed! Although the food has never been so amazing in the past, but it was standard pub food and eatable at least. The service was slow and we had to follow up on order twice, 25 min after we ordered. Finally when the roasts arrived, both beef and pork, none of us could touch the meats after the first bite. The meat was of very low quality and very poorly prepared! I think the Turf Tavern is the definition of Tourist Trap and will never return.

“The Turf Tavern Oxford”

A very old pub thats full of character !
Its got loads of atmosphere and is a must for young folks visiting Oxford !
You can get food and ale and you could get scrumpy ,a rough cider, at one time and maybe even mead there. Its located near of the Bridge of Sighs at the top of Queens Lane - central Oxford but well hidden you may need to ask the way !

“Substantially improved”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2014

This is one of the best known and busy pubs in Oxford, especially when the weather is nice. Allow no tourist guide to tell you any different despite its hidden location.

Restaurant: Good selection of better than average food for standard central Oxford rates (read £1.50 more than it should cost). Surprisingly fast service. Inside is a rather dull pub but you're going to the Turf to sit outside, a lovely terrace that is heated in winter and covered for the inevitable showers.

Pub: Always a fine selection of beer, wine, and cider. If it's tied to a particular brewery, I can't tell which as on every visit there is seemingly a completely different selection. Staff is a tad slow as the bar is somewhat too small for the number of customers, so approach with patience. It'll pay off.

“Real pub experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2014

It might not be as flashy or clean but few pubs beat the Turf in terms of vibe.

Hidden behind Oxford's mediaeval wall remnants, the pub is full of historical charm. That alone would be reason to attract travellers but the Turf's main habitués are not Asian or American tourists, they're the city's students themselves, thanks to the relaxed atmosphere, reasonable prices and tasty food.

The ales are very reasonable and a friend of mine was very commending of the burger (I haven't tried because I don't eat meat).

Worth a visit!
