Mercure Eastgate Oxford

The rooms in the hotel were very comfortable with everything you need for a weekend break. The bus from the station stops a few minutes walk from the hotel and all the attractions in Oxford are within easy walking distance.
The hotel cost us quite a bit less for our weekend break than other city centre hotel in Oxford and was good value for what we got.
In all a very good hotel for a quiet, good value comfortable break. I highly recommend this hotel.
Just one quibble, the shower was extremely poor (the bath made up for it's deficiencies though).

The hotel is very conveniently located in the vicinity of many colleges and the central shopping area. I stayed for two nights in a rather small, but nicely decorated and very well fitted room (including with heated towel rack and trouser press). Very clean and with complimentary tea and coffee in the room.
The bar/tea/reading salon was really pleasant, quiet and relaxing.
Breakfast was good, with a nice choice of dishes cooked to order and served with a smile.
Dinner was tasty, with fresh ingredients and generous portions.
Staff lovely.
Recommended without reservations.

Had a long weekend. Superb and extremely courteous service by all staff. Food excellent. Very comfortable bed. High;y recommend this hotel for a short break.

Only problem was the lack of road signs in central Oxford. Each foray was an adventure in trying to find way out to Woodstock and Gresham and the A44 and found areas of the City never visited before. Not fault of Hotel!!!!

Like in the old joke about the three things that mattered to me when visiting family at the university: location, location, location. Really central but still quiet in the evenings, pleasant room decor with everything a normal person could want (even an ice-bucket for the cold-drink obsessed Americans) and reasonably priced. Only quibble is that it was not possible to open the window in my room to get some fresh air.in. Highly recommended

We were there for a weekend. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and our room was excellent - a good size, comfortable, quiet and nicely decorated (I even liked the pictures on the wall!). The large bathroom had natural light, a large bath and a removable shower head. We had reserved a parking space in advance and even though we had not been told that it was charged at £15 per night we felt that this was reasonable as it was very convenient and parking is difficult in Oxford.
Breakfast on our first morning left a bit to be desired. Some staff members seemed inexperienced and were not very friendly. My eggs and my husband's cooked breakfast were almost cold.
On our first evening we returned to the hotel after eating elsewhere and went to the bar. My husband waited behind three or four other customers and was invited by the barman to sit down and he would come and take orders. However more customers came to the bar and he chose to serve them. After the fourth customer we gave up and returned to our room. I should say that our breakfast and service the following day were much improved - we never tried the bar again. Perhaps more bar staff are needed at weekends?
The hotel's location, with its entrance in beautiful Merton Street, is very good. Overall I liked the hotel very much and would happily return.

This hotel in in the heart of Oxford. The staff are really helpful. There is the advantage of a car park as parking is very limited in oxford. Breakfast was excellent, the hot dishes are cooked to order and a varied menu.

We have stayed here many times to attend University functions.

The convenient location of this hotel to city center Oxford makes it worthwhile for either personal or business travel. The hotel meets all my basic requirements for a work-related trip. I especially like its close proximity to coach stations servicing London and the major airports. One minor flaw is that there was no lift (elevator) on my side of the hotel property, but my room was a mere 5-step from the reception level. I definitely recommend this hotel for its good value, friendly service, and convenient location.
