The staff was extremely accommodating and professional in handling everything from a very late arrival to endless questions and taxi/direction requests (over the Christmas holiday no less). Could not have felt more welcome by the front desk staff, bartender or housekeeping.

Our room, which may have been an upgrade, had the perfect balance between charm and comfort. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was large, modern and well maintained. Our son's single was small, but had a lot of character and was just as clean and comfortable as ours. As expected, his bathroom was smaller and did not have a tub, but was perfectly clean and comfortable.
The location is within a 5 minutes walk to the heart of Oxford with ample shops and resturants right nearby. We did not have an opportunity to eat in the hotel restaurant, but the menu and facilities looked inviting.

The Oxford Mecure ended up to be exactly what we were looking for in Oxford lodging and at a fair price point.

Just a very nice hotel
Staff were always pleasant, breakfast was personally cooked and excellent
The room was a little bit small compared to more modern hotels
Location good ... just along the high street

Booked for 3 nights Christmas package (self and wife). Excellent food and very friendly and helpful staff. Included cream tea on 24th 3 course a la Carte Dinner (chose haddock) , on 25th excellent buffet and hot meal choice breakfast - 4 course a la Carte lunch - chose turkey - freshly cooked that day (no reheating yesterday's bird), Queen's speech (!), Christmas cake and tea; informal light fork buffet in evening. Boxing day another excellent breakfast then conducted tour of Oxford colleges and evening dinner (chose Welsh lamb) . Can't fault it. Weather was kind so had plenty of time for walks around the City and colleges. Will come again next year.

This hotel is in a great location opposite Magdalen College, and CSLewis apparently stayed there. The hotel is in easy walking distance into downtown Oxford. The car park is one of the smallest I have ever seen and reached through a very narrow tunnel, but in an historic area like this you have to compromise somewhere! On a practical note though, the car park is a block system, so you will get blocked in! Yu have to leave your car keys at reception and a valet will(hopefully) move your car around safely!

Staying as a family though, the only downside was the restaurant, which looks too posh for families and more fine dining. We also skipped breakfast at £18 per head!!

Dear Keckwick
Thank you for writing a review of your recent stay at the Eastgate. Our full English breakfast sells at £15.95 but may be booked and prepaid on arrival at a discounted rate of £10. I am sorry you did not get time to eat in the Rosette awarded High Table restaurant. A two course lunch costs from £10.95 and if seated by 7pm a two course dinner costs £10.95 with a three course at £14.50. Car parking is limited to 40 spaces which in a city like Oxford is greatly prized. C.S Lewis did visit the hotel regularly and in fact got engaged to his American girlfriend in the restaurant. We look forward to welcoming you back to the Eastgate when the need arises.
Best Wishes

Stayed Christmas eve, and Christmas night. Sleep quality i.e linens, pillows, mattress all excellent. Our room on the third floor at the very far end over looked the High Street and was larger than we had expected. The bathroom was twee - patterned tiles, but the water pressure from shower, disappointing. Had we stayed longer we might have complained or asked to move.
Staff were efficient, and pleasant enough, breakfast included freshly cooked hot options - eggs benedict - were excellent, and fresh fruit nice. If breakfast isn't included if you reserve the day before its £10 for a four star hotel which isn't bad. Overnight parking at £15 is convenient if not particularly cheap.
We were visiting family and I grew up in Oxford but the short stay tourist couldn't wish for a more historic building and central location for all the sights.
