Just a few minutes walk from the station and from all the attractions of Oxford this hotel is ideally situated for a city break especially if you are travelling by train. The staff were friendly, welcoming and informative with a free map of the city and suggestions as to where we could go. The room was clean and comfortable with good complimentary snacks and drinks, the bathroom was spacious with a good shower and the bed was really comfortable with super pillows.
Excellent value for money for the summer in Oxford city centre. There is no lift which could be a disadvantage for some and it's a hotel for sleeping in, the photo of the "lounge" on the website is misleading, it is just a couple of seats in reception. I didn't have breakfast so can't comment, there are loads of places to get breakfast and all other meals close by.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the courtyard so was quiet. Rooms overlooking the street may not be. The room ha...

We enjoyed our stay at the Royal Oxford Hotel. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, our room was large and the location close to the railway station and just five minutes away from the city centre was perfect. We only stayed there for two nights, but would have loved to stay longer. The breakfast was nice with really good coffee and tea. Overall, a nice hotel to stay in when visiting the beautiful town of Oxford.

This is a lovely, sleek, modern little hotel located at the centre of Oxford. The service is very good and the room we got was really beautiful. We would hav stayed two more weeks, if holidays had permitted! and we'll certainly come back.

I booked this hotel on the basis of the number of 'excellent' reviews it had generated, and was disappointed. Maybe I should have done more research on alternatives.

First the positive: the staff are friendly, and the hotel is conveniently located to the railway station, bus interchange and several car rental offices. Having a strip of bars and nightclubs on the same block may or may not be a positive for some, but it was midweek, and they seemed quiet. The town centre and colleges are all within walking distance. The wifi is complimentary and very fast. Fruit, water, tea and coffee are complimentary.

Now the not-so-positive: The building is pretty underwhelming and lacks character. The lobby is very small, with two small lounges, and the tea / coffee area was filled with dirty cups and saucers. There seemed to be no secure storage for suitcases or bags: these were left in the lobby or under the stairs (fine if the staff are always present). There is no lift, which means lugging suitcases up the stairs. The room is small, though the bathroom reasonably sized - the shower is somewhat counter-intuitive to use. The convenience of the bus interchange means that bus noise is consistent until around 11 pm (minor issue, but Oxford is a pretty quiet city elsewhere). Noise transmission between rooms was an issue - I could hear our neighbours turn their light switches on and off, cough, use the TV etc. There's no parking or drop-off point for the hotel, and it's on a no stopping zone (bus route).

Overall, I was disappointed with the hotel, as I did not think it was going to be as basic as it turned out to be, and do not think it represents particularly good value. I should have done more research, and would not stay here again in the future.

In the recent heatwave we moved to this hotel for the AC. We were rewarded with a good ( if small ) room, wonderful staff and a capital location!! Nothing was too much trouble and everything was an easy walk. Don't miss Malmaison for breakfast and Christ Church Cathedral for beauty and spirituality.

Just what my wife and I needed. I stayed for a few nights and was extremely impressed with every little detail. Specifically the Wi-Fi, the high ceiling and the service. I would highly recommend to anyone passing through Oxford.

Flying from Taiwan to the UK and staying in this hotel for our first days of the holiday. My husband and me and my 4-year-old son was staying in a one-double and one-single bed room, which was bigger and more spacious than we expected. We liked the high ceiling, the individual heaters, and the very bright bathroom.

Besides tea bags and instant coffee bags, they warmly provided a big bowl of fruit, more than enough tea biscuit and 3 glass bottles of mineral water everyday. A miner thing that made my husband nag a little bit is that sometimes the cleaning lady didn't choose good quality of apples for us, fortunately the oranges were good.

We could have rented a one-double bedroom and had my son squeeze with us in one bed and got a cheaper room rate, which could lessen the negative part of a little too pricey rate we took, 150 pounds per night, but we found a very pleasant stay in the end and didn't regret at all.
