“Nice and quiet...”
Reviewed May 2, 2011

£6 taxi into Oxford - £12 return after 10pm. Ideal for the City with a peaceful retreat. Clean rooms and great service. All staff very polite and helpful. Breakfast room very airy with excellent decor and a more than adequate selection of food. Bar prices very reasonable (Guinness £3:50p) Plenty of comfortable seating in 3 different areas (rooms) a nice garden area with smoking areas. Hotel is totally "No smoking" internally and the reward is a nice clean atmosphere. Rooms clean with flat screen TV and excellent picture quality on all channels. Bathrooms well designed with lovely decor. Would use again 100%.

We booked this hotel using a groupon voucher for 1 nights stay plus 3 course dinner but paid a little extra to upgrade our room to a superior. The welcome on arrival and service throughout our short stay was excellent. The room we were allocated looked as though it has recently been refurbished and smart, bright and clean. The meal in the restaurant that evening was lovely with a nice cosy atmosphere. When we had finished our meal we found a few reception areas which were quiet and ideal for us to relax and unwind. Breakfast the next morning was adequate and was the ideal start to a day sight-seeing in nearby Oxford.

A bit of a disappointment, a little run down on the outside, a few mix ups not making the weekend what was expected.

When we went into the bar for pre dinner drinks, we asked if they did cocktails, to which the answer was no, so we asked for Vodka Martinis
as we knew they stocked both vodka and martini. We were told that they couldnt mix the two. Its not rocket science!!! Its these kind of things that let a hotel down.

The follow day I had sickness, which I can probably put down to the under cooked grilled pork.

This place is in a beautiful setting, it needs a little care and attention, inside and out, few less cock ups and more attempts to please the customers and it could be brought back to what I would imagine was a very good hotel once upon a time.

My daughter held her wedding ceremony and reception at Hawkwell House Hotel. It was an ideal venue, the staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. The food for the reception and evening buffet was excellent, we were all very pleased with the organisation of the whole day.

I stayed here overnight in March as I was attending a conference in Oxford the next day. I paid their single room rate and was given room 207, which could be a small double room. It would be tight for two, but was very comfortable for one. Digital TV channels, obviously not that long decorated with modern but quite neutral decor and a clean modern bathroom with waterfall style shower (no bath). Warm and cosy. In the morning I had a little look round the public areas of the hotel; there are several public lounge areas, which all looked very comfortable and clean, as well as a separate bar (which I didn't go into) and the restaurant. Breakfast was very nice; the restaurant is once again clean and modern, service was polite and efficient and the breakfast itself had a self-service cold section plus four (?) hot options, hot drinks and toast to order.
The hotel is about two miles outside the centre of Oxford and has its own parking; it is also about a five minute walk from buses into the city or to the station, which come along frequently. It was good value for an Oxford hotel and i would definitely use it again.

Went for a brief two night stay as both my partner and I are self employed and rarely get away. we were allocated 201 in the main building. we were checked in quickly and efficiently by reception who helped us make reservations in the restaurant as having driven for 5 hours we didn't want to venture out. We had received a compliamentary upgrade to a 4 poster room with a large bathroom (it had a central tub which you don't see often in hotels). The food in the restuarant was good and served in sensible sized portions and they also had their own personalised water which was a unique touch. On the second night reception (it was a male receptionist but I forget his name) helped us find a cute little restaurant in iffley. All in all a good stay.
