I had a pleasant enough stay in this hotel but the combination of the niggles and the price point make it difficult to rate highly. Room was nice enough, despite a view of the air conditioners. Bed comfy. Shower pressure excellent although there was no shaving mirror in the bathroom.

Breakfast cooked to order was ok - the supplement for smoked haddock seemed unnecessarily cheap. WiFi is reasonable and free.

Niggles - no gym. This is a big hotel but has no gym facilities although it has a fairly extensive spa. I guess that’s the target demographic plus a spa makes money and a gym doesn’t.

Windows in the room were secondarily double glazed which meant they didn’t open. Air conditioning wasn’t adjustable.

At £150 a night this would be a good hotel. At double that it just isn’t.

We liked our room on the 4th floor, comfortable with a nice batthroom, but;
- this hotel has the slowest smallest lifts in a 5* hotel in the world. It is easily quicker to walk up, even with bags.
- we didn't eat in the hotel as there is no menu information in the room and we couldn't be bothered to walk down and up 4 floors to try and find out what is on offer.
- the room keys are prone to stop working, 4 floors of stairs again.
- the instructions on how to unlock the safe were locked in the safe.
- the outside is currenly shrouded in scaffolding with a dark access passage.
None of which would have really mattered if we were not paying such a premium price.

Dear George B,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us. We do appreciate all the feedback that we get in order to improve ourselves.
I am pleased to see that you enjoyed some elements of your stay. But I am disappointed to see that you we didn't fulfill the five star experience that you expected.
The Hotel is a Grade II listed building and so we are very strictly guided by what can be changed in the hotel, we have recently gone through a substantial refurbishment of the public areas of the hotel, however have limited ability to change elements of the hotel, due to the need to keep the styling as authentic as possible. I have passed all your feedback onto the Heads of departments who will be looking at your feedback closely and feeding back to there team.

If you wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact me as I will be more than happy to hear what you have to say.

Once again thank you so much for taking the time to give us your feedback, we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back in the future.

Kindest Regards,

Jade E

My partner was born in Oxford ( quite a few yrs ago ! ) and this Hotel was always out of reach as she was growing up. As new mature grown-ups, we were visiting Oxford and decided to treat ourselves - ticking off the bucket list I suppose. On arrival we got off to a bad start, I had been told the hotel had parking, I called the reception a few days before arrival and booked a space in the SMALL ( + 20 car ) car park. On arrival, I wasnt on the list. The porters did a good job of calling each other and eventually somehow ( somewhere ???) they parked my car. I assume in the garage but it could have been anywhere to be honest. Anyway checkin later and friendly staff. We had booked a KING FEATURE room, which was fine but very expensive for 1 night at just over GBP 400 including breakfast. A friendly porter helped take us up to the room, and showed us around, fine. The corridor to hotel seemed "tired", the carpet was a musty, the room was Ok, but my wife who notices things, said the bathroom was a bit tired, there had been silicon kit applied to the bath in a bit of a random way. Basically the room, as a small suite, was OK. It was at the back of the hotel so quiet, the bed was good. No real issues. Then we come to the breakfast the next day........very poor. We arrvied reasonably early for breakfast and found the selection in the buffet very sparse. limited fruit, yoghurt, tired looking bread selection, etc.. To summarise, the location is great, the staff are friendly and the porters excellent !!!!, the hotel seems in need of a renovation, but maybe that is the feature they are trying to sell on - "character"........UUMMMMMMM. We will not stay again and can tick it off the list as a large investment for a basic nights sleep. Interestingly we were travelling around the area and the next hotel we stayed in, the concierge had been at the Randolph a few years earlier and when we told him our views he said yes that sounds about right, tired and nowhere near the grandeur of its hey day !

Room tip: if you need to park, make sure to call ahead many days before arrival and book a space in the Hotel car park, but it is about GBP 32 per day

We just called in here to see the Inspector Morse Exhibit but sadly due to building work there were only 2 pictures to see in the bar. Service was friendly but very slow, drinks / cocktails were very good and we liked the ambience.

Dear Chrissy,

Thank you for providing the hotel with feedback in regards to your recent Visit, i believe you are referencing the Morse Bar, which is located in the hoel, we do not have a Morse Exhibit as it were. People do come to the hotel to see a number of the locations used in the series.

Many thanks for your feedback,we hope you managed to enjoy our Morse Champagne Cocktail.

We enjoyed this property on our visit to Oxford. Whether using the train or bus systems to explore, we found the stops for each are easy walking distance. In fact, the trains pick up right outside the front door! We used the bus to visit both Blenheim Palace and the Beister Outlet. Such convenient and easy transportation options. The Randolph breakfast which has many options is included with your room.

Room tip: great location and value
