“A bit disappointing”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

On arrival we had to park in a local car park where the spaces were very tight and we had to wait about 30 mins to get one; parking cost £28.50 which was steep.

Once we had found our room (the hotel is like a labyrinth!) we were pleased to see it was a good size but it was freezing and the air con didn't work. We phoned reception and they got us a heater. This was fine but when the room was cleaned the power key was taken away so the heater did not have the desired effect of heating the room! Some areas of the hotel are a bit tired and it seemed that everything had an additional charge (breakfast, use of spa...)

Drinks in the Morse Bar were extortionately priced and there was a stale smell in the lobby area; it was a lot cheaper to go to one of the local pubs (all very good)

The location of the hotel is brilliant; right in the centre of Oxford but there are other 5* hotels which don't incur as many additional costs and are in better condition.

We enjoyed a family weekend at the Randolph staff were friendly & helpful, rooms lovely but £20 additional cost per person for a full English seems steep to me and the bacon wasn't the butchers top of the range ! On the plus side the evening meal was good value and the staff very attentive we would return but give the breakfast a miss. Morse bar a touch on the small side but very nice staff and glasses of water free of charge.

Thank you for email and I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Here at the hotel we do offer breakfast inclusive rates but on occasion these are closed out when we reach a certain number and have very high numbers of guests in the hotel. We will always endeavour to accommodate guests who require breakfast and the £20.00 charge includes access to our extensive continental buffet and a choice of hot options.

I do hope that we can be of service to you again in the future.

We stayed here for one night during easter. The hotel itself has some great period features. The room was very nice and extremely clean. The bowl of fruit and the small box of chocolates were a nice touch. The hotel is very centrally located, you are literally on the main high street as you walk out of the hotel.
The only reason I've knocked off a star is for the expensive car park, we did some research and parked at the park and ride which is less than half the price (and the bus stops outside the hotel) the breakfast was lovely however the service was rather slow.

I would happily recommend this hotel and would return in the future.

Thank you for your kind comments regarding your stay with us. I was pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. I was sorry that you found the car park to be expensive. Here in the city parking is limited and we charge £26.50 per night for valet parking. The council car park adjacent to the hotel charges £29.20 for 24 hours. The city is indeed serviced by a very user friendly park and ride system and once in the centre all attractions are within walking distance.
I do hope that we can be of assistance to you in the future.

We should only be able to give a hotel as perfect as the Randolph 5 stars for everything. BUT,,, sadly it’s not perfect, just another establishment with the means of extracting hard earned cash from its patrons by corporate accountants.
It felt like the staff were divided into 2 categories, half that work at caring for guests as though the hotel is their own business & the other half who’d read a book yesterday on running a hotel & started work there today.
Surely, even a group like Macdonald Hotels has someone that can check the state of the creaking floorboards. I dread to think what it sounded like in the room below 226 & along the landing to it.
Would we return ? yes. Don’t be put off by all the negative reviews, there are some nice touches & helpful staff.

Room Tip: Find the direct telephone number for the hotel, phone when it’s quiet, talk to one of the helpful...

Thank you for review and I was pleased to learn you would return to the hotel. I was however sorry to note you were disturbed by creaky floorboards and that you found distinct differences in service standard with the staff. Please be assured I shall be discussing your comments at our weekly team meeting and thank you for taking the time to bring these to our attention.

Beautiful hotel opposite the Ashmolean Museum. Excellent spot to while away a couple of hours over a traditional afternoon tea. You can choose between different menus depending upon how ravenous you might be - including a wonderful champagne one which includes delicate and delicious sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, jam and lemon curd, as well as half a dozen dainty cakes - divine and indulgent! If you are lucky, as we were on our visit, a pianist will be playing classical music as you sink into squashy chairs and sofas

I stayed at this famous establishment for three nights during a business meeting in town. All the services were well run and the room I had was top notch. One humours note about the hotel room is that I had to walk through a virtual maze to get to my room. I think I was three buildings over by the time I got to my room. This off course is a part of the charm in such an older establishment. We used their main conference room which was well put together. I had breakfast in lunch in their dining rooms and all the food was delicious. It's in the best location for seeing Oxford, just a clip down the road from the famous Eagle and Child pub and right across the street from Ashmolean museum.

Thank you taking the time to post a review. I was pleased to learn that you enjoyed your conference at the hotel. Reading your review I believe your room was located in the Worcester Wing of the hotel. This is indeed located quite a distance from the main reception but the rooms are executive grade and boast separate walk in showers with baths as well being more spacious with a seating area.

I do hope that we can of service to you again in the future.

Pleasant and delightfult greeting through a simple check in procedure to a nice room with very comfortable beds. We had only gone to Oxford for a night of Folk Music at the nearby New Theatre and the Hotel was conveniently placed for our plans. When we got back after the show we were able to relax in the Morse Bar whilst looking over the CDs we had purchased. We had in the past assumed that this would be one of the most expensive options in Oxford but this proved not to be the case. We will probably try to stay again but next time will plan in advance to try the Afternoon Tea and maybe the Spa.
