The Randolph is a lovely, classy hotel with a brilliant location right in the centre of Oxford. The bedroom was nice, with a very comfortable bed. There were nice touches, such as champagne and chocolates... The internet and the shower were underpowered, but the major problem for me was the price: £429 a night (without breakfast). My room had a view over the hotel plant and equipment, air conditioners etc.

The room was booked at this price without me knowing. Despite being a nice hotel it is certainly not worth this much.

Thank you posting a review. I was pleased that on the whole you enjoyed your stay with us. I am sorry that you found the pressure in the shower to be lacking and I shall be having my maintenance manager assess this. The internet access is also normally very reliable and I am sorry this caused inconvenience.

Here at the hotel we are right in the heart of the city and land locked. This does mean that not all our rooms have external views but your room was offered with every confidence you would comfortable. Accommodation is at a premium in the city of Oxford and the prices paid depend on demand. It is always worth booking well in advance to take advantage of more favourable rates and special offers that occur during the year.

I do hope that we have the pleasure of being of service to you again in the future.

Kind regards,

Michael Grange
General Manager

The building is beautiful and in a convenient central location. The rooms weren't as stylish as the rest of the building may suggest but lovely none the less. Amazing banquet breakfast included and served in a grand hall.

The location is excellent - in the heart of the city and my room was overlooking Ashmolean Museum. The breakfast is excellent - both continental bufet & English hot served food. The service is great and they let me keep the luggage there for a week between my stays. The room is cleaned twice a day and you always get fresh towel, some chocolates & beverages.

However if you have a room next to fire evacuation doors or where cleaning stuff has supplies then it get's extremely noisy - you hear the doors all the time, it's a nightmare if you need a quite afternoon.

Room Tip: avoid 212 because of noise

When ordering a spirit at the bar be aware that you will be given and charged for a double unless you have clearly stated you only want a single. I asked for a gin and tonic and was given the drink with all the tonic poured in which is not a good start. Then i was presented with the bill for a double. When i challenged the barman i was told about the policy of giving doubles. Seemingly it is on the drinks menu but who asks for a menu if you just want a g and t. I offered to pay for a single gin and after the manager was called was given the drink for nothing. A good finish. I think it is a silly money making policy which probably is something trading standards would have something to say about. Had hoped to stay there sometime but think i will take my custom elsewhere.

Oh dear! This has the same ownership as The Compleat Angler in Marlow and suffers similarly.

The hotel is wonderfully situated right in the heart of Oxford, and as such, I suppose it merits some sort of premium.

However, to describe this as 5* is absolutely farcical and puts that sort of rating into disrepute. The decor is tired - lots of beige which rather reflects the atmsophere - and to be charged £290 was outrageous for B&B in a room that was 15' square with worn-out carpet, an armchair that was well past its sell-by date and furniture that would have been OK in an unpretentious 3* establishment.

Breakfast got off on the right foot ..... light and crispy croissants and a very adequate buffet spread, but don't bother with ordering cooked.

My wife specifically asked for poached eggs that had been nowhere near the dreaded vinegared water. Hahaha! She sent them back and ordered scrambled eggs instead. These were luke warm and had clearly been made a while back - she left 90% of those too.

I had fried eggs, sausage and black pudding. Again, these had all obviously been pre-prepared.

The coffee was perfectly drinkable but unexciting but at least the toast was from "proper" bread even if pre-made and cold.

The staff are delightful, but they can go nowhere near compensating for yet another hopelessly over-rated and over-priced hotel.

I dread to think what our overseas visitors must think of it - and by extension, our country's quality of hospitality

Room Tip: find another hotel!
