Staff is very caring and cheerful, and if they don't know something they'll go to someone who does. One gem is Lucy. There was a slight bit of confusion on our arrival, nothing serious, and she fixed it handily. She worked us into a more appropriate room and did it with a smile and took us to it.
The rooms are small, so it pays dividends to pay a bit more for a deluxe, which is not huge at all, but a lot better than a standard. Bathroom had all we needed. Shower was excellent, and there was a tub, but we wouldn't dream of using it and trying to get in and out.
We were on the 3rd floor facing the rear, as quiet is important to us, and I had read about noise from the High Street in front of the hotel. We had a view of Merton College and were high enough that we looked ovwe the car park which is below. Bright and sunny room.
The hotel is quite modern and handsomely done, and the art, to us, is wonderful.
We lunched one day in the terrace in back and it was very pleasant, given the day. We also ate in the restaurant 1 evening, and it is smart and quite casual with good simple food - not fussy at all, which suited us just fine. The prices in the restaurant are good. We were there 3 nights, Wednesday leaving Saturday. I can imagine that Fridays and Saturdays when Oxford is in session the restaurant might be noisy. The hotel is very close to several colleges.
Our only reservation was that the beds are hard but not hard enough. I have back problems and need a very hard bed for support. This didn't quite do it for us.

Room Tip: If you must have quiet, as we must, then the back is the best option. Higher (3rd floor) is the top...

It's certainly expensive, but for a location right in the center of a city like Oxford, one should not complain. My room had everything one could ask for, except adequate space to put away clothes or hide my suitcase. The bathroom similarly lacked space to put one's toiletries. A shelf would have been nice. However, there should be no complaints about water pressure and the shower being feeble. It was not.One nice feature of the hotel is its 'residents lounge'. It was a quiet room outfitted with books (good ones too) and a coffee machine that made a great cup of coffee from pods. I really liked that room.Breakfast at the Quod restaurant was delightful but horribly overpriced. One can have breakfast for a fraction of the price just next door in Valerie's Patisserie.Let's close with two positive comments. First, I found the staff to be consistenly friendly and helpful. Secondly, I want to stress that this hotel has a parking lot. For a hotel in the centre of Oxford where cars are discouraged, that is a big plus.

This was my second stay at the old bank hotel. The staff make it a very special place indeed. They arranged hypoallergenic bedding and when a tooth broke were kind enough to find a dentist on a Friday evening. The rooms in the hotel vary widely. On my first stay we got a beautiful room overlooking the main road with window seats and high ceilings. However, due to construction we asked to move and wound up in the hotels smallest back facing room. There was no room to open a carry on. That said the bed was delicious, the room meticulously clean and the shower and bathroom a delight. This time we stayed on the top floor (per a request). The rooms charm was unparalled but it was very hot, even with the extra air conditioner they put in the room. This however is something that most of the year would make no difference.
The location is perfect for exploring Oxford, the restaurant top notch if a bit pricey. Overall, a great hotel. It is however quite expensive and whether it is worth it depends on how much you value a clean room and nice staff

Room Tip: Room quality varies, for quiet choose back facing, for stunning view the top floor (but there are na...

This was one of the better city lodging experiences we have had for some time. First, in our opinion, the location could not have been better. On Oxford’s High Street, it is immediately across the street the street from the University Church of St. Mary the Virgin and All Souls College, and in view of the Radcliffe Camera some 70 yards away. It is also less than a 5 minute walk to the Covered Market, and perhaps 8 minutes from Magdalen College and the River Cherwell and its gardens.

Second, the staff was outstanding in all respects: front desk, housekeeping, restaurant. Although we arrived early at a busy checkout time, they acknowledged our presence and invited us to a small reception seating area until they could attend to our checking in (which was very prompt).

Third, the room was clean, comfortable and exactly what we had hoped for. We opted for a room that faced out onto High Street and towards St. Mary’s, and while bus and vehicular traffic can be heavy at times, outside sounds were barely detectable due to the double windows.

Fourth --- and we initially viewed this as a “nice to have” but not consider it a “not to be missed” --- is the complimentary Oxford University walking tour offered by the hotel. Because of our early arrival our first day, our room was not ready and we took one of the hop-on/hop-off bus tours that provided a very excellent overview to the city and the University, and that took is to places just far enough away that we wouldn’t have seen otherwise. (By the way, although they’re the same company, the green busses typically have a live guide giving a narrative while the red buses are taped.) But it was truly the walking tour with the guide provided by the Old Bank --- in our case, tour guide par excellence, Isabella Underhill --- that really allowed us a much better understanding of University life and its evolution over the years. PLEASE take advantage of this opportunity if you can.

Other positives (there were no negatives in our opinion): interesting modern art throughout the hotel, a quite good and reasonably priced restaurant, and a back lounge called the Library where one can sit, read, and order snacks and drinks.

This is a cute hotel in Oxford, which is jammed with provincial and bad hotels. The rooms are "nice enough", clean and modern, and the beds comfortable. HOWEVER, our room was basically in the attic, and a bit dated in terms of style. And the £325 per night rate was more than twice what it should have been. Furthermore, the breakfast (which was not included, but cost £16 per person on top) was pretty disgusting - not great coffee, and nasty fatty sausages.

If you want to walk the University area, then this is the place. The location is incredibly located near all of Oxford's familiar sights. The staff is friendly and very helpful. Not your traditional English hotel by any means. It isn't the most handicapped friendly place, but there a lot worse and the staff will do anything you need in terms of carrying and bringing things.

I had called up the hotel twice to inquire about a few things as I was surprising my Mom.
Little did I know that when I arrived the staff was well aware of who I was and upgraded us to a suite. What a magnificent room! :)
We had a great view and the beds were so comfortable you could barely think of getting up.
For us, the staff made all the difference. Very welcoming and correct with everything.
We had a little bite on their patio restaurant called Quod which was great!
But my surprise for my Mom was the massage we got after our tour around Oxford.
If you have the time do get this organized with the hotel. The masseuses that come are splendid.
