We stayed at the Old Bank on a Friday night because we did not want to have rush back to London after a concert we had been attending. I chose the Old Bank because of the positive reviews here and we were very pleased with our choice. The location could not have been better and was within easy walking distance of just about everything. Importantly, access by car was outstandingly easy with clear directions and a large, free car park at the back of the hotel. The setting of the hotel is absolutely delightful and although there didn't seem to be much in the way of public spaces, it was perfectly the comfortable. We had a standard double room (206) which was at the back so very quiet and spacious enough, but not huge.

If I were to nit-pick, the restaurant (Quod) seemed a bit detached from the hotel and entering from the hotel, you found yourself wandering around the restaurant trying to attract someone's attention. I also found the shower (over the bath) somewhat hard work compared to the monsoon showers that Hotel du Vin (a competitor, I would say, of Old Bank) tend to have. I also thought that £261/night B&B was a touch on the steep side and it is this which makes me downgrade Old Bank from Excellent to simply Very Good. I think I would have overlooked the aforementioned niggles were it not for the price tag.

Old Bank is nevertheless a lovely place to stay and I would certainly stay there again if I were in Oxford since it is so pleasant, convenient and well-located.

We stayed at Old Bank Hotel for two nights in May 2013. The location is perfect for exploring the campus of Oxford University and the surrounding area of canals, bookstores, restaurants, and shops. We stayed in Room 45, top floor, facing the High Street and the university and experienced no street noise whatsoever, although I was worried about it because of other reviews. Elegant furnishings, a knowledgeable and deferential staff, and enticing art on the walls, good food in the restaurant (although breakfast is not included). This hotel is expensive, but it delivers. The hotel even offers a complimentary 2-hour tour of the campus by an official guide, well-worth taking.

Room Tip: Despite warnings, High Street-facing rooms on a high floor are quiet, and the view of the campus is...

We stayed at the Old Bank Hotel for a short city break from work. The hotel is in a fantastic location in Oxford surrounded by many of the prettier university colleges and within easy walking distance of many restaurants and shops. What most impressed me about the hotel was the friendliness and proficiency of the staff, they seem to enjoy their work and this creates a very welcoming atmosphere. Our room was clean, tidy, and well-provisioned and we found it comfortable. If you have the time we recommend the free walking tours the hotel provides.

Pure luxury ... staff incredibly attentive and genuinely friendly. As our stay was for a special anniversary, we were upgraded and treated to a bottle of champagne.A superb room, with lovely bow windows and views across to Merton College. Breakfast and dinner delicious and beautifully presented. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Oxford - this is on a par with the best small luxury hotels of the world, Thank you for our wonderful stay everyone!

We spent three nights at the Old Bank and would have loved to stay longer. The staff was excellent, starting with Jessica at the front desk, and including everyone we encountered. When we had a quick break for lunch between excursions, everyone went out of their way in the restaurant to accommodate us without making us feel rushed. The breakfasts were hearty and delicious. And the complimentary walking tour of the town was a really good introduction.

We spend well over 100 nights a year in hotels and never have we come across such helpful staff at the front desk or delightful waiters and waitresses in the restaurant. Our need for a doctor was followed up immediately and we were constantly being asked over our three-day stay how we were following his visit and whether there was anything else that could be done. We were warned in advance of the problem of driving there and of the fine should we stray too far along the Hight Street, but were 'talked in' to the car park, which again was marvellous. Plenty of room and specifically for hotel guests. The room was excellent as was the bathroom. All in all, can't recommend it too highly, and we shall certainly be back.

My wife and I had a short break in Oxford earlier in June to celebrate a birthday and selected this hotel on the basis of reviews in TripAdvisor. And we were not disappointed! Excellent service from all the hotel staff, a very comfortable room with views of the dreaming spires over the rooftops, and no problems with car parking, even though this was central Oxford. We will definitely go back for more of the same.

Room Tip: No 44 has excellent views and is quiet
