Christchurch has stunning architecture which is well worth a visit! The buildings have history and information is available to read throughout the self guided tour. The tour itself offers perfect photo opportunities from key British film scenes such as Harry Potter.

Unbeknownst to us, we visited Oxford while the town was in full graduation mode. There was a great festive atmosphere in the air and hordes of people were strolling around in gown and mortar board, or suits and sunday best for one of the semmingly thousand weddings that were taking place in the city on that fine sunny day.
We wanted to go to Christ Church College mainly because of it featuring as a location in the Harry Potter films; namely the Grand Staircase, the Cloisters and most spectacularly The Grand Hall.
The Grand Hall was set, not like a Harry Potter film set, but as it normally would for a university function, but the visual was not lost and my children thought it was just wonderful. They also loved the parading up the Grand Staircase, though we had to use our imagination with The Cloisters.
There is a charge to enter Christ Church, but I thought it was very good value for money (14 pounds for a family ticket). The entry fee also gave you entry into Christ Church Cathedral as well, which was lovely also. There is a gift shop for those who are that way inclined and the meadow leading to the river is lovely.
The negative was that the toilets were an utter disgrace - shut your eyes and don't look at the ground kind of hideous, as though they hadn't been cleaned or checked for a week.

When in Oxford, don't worry about where to eat.....on a nice warm Spring or Summer day, simply walk down through the beautiful grounds of Christchurch meadow and sit with a picnic or a sandwich from the local shops...down by the river, just watch the boats go by.

The hall in this college was used in the Harry Potter films so is great if your a fan of the films, if your not then its well worth seeing for its beauty and historical significance. A lovely building, the Cathedral is magnificent and Evensong is wonderful, worth the trip.
